I voted for Lamotta. I really like Basilio, and think he's very underrated skills wise. However Jake was a vey skilled pressure fighter (very educated jab and generals hip) , and was much tougher than Carmen (tough as he was), and that's a large factor H2H I don't think many consider as much as power or skills. I would say defensively they're about equal, meaning Lamotta has considerable advantage when combined with his toughness, especially against huge punchers. I think Lamotta would beat the version of Gavilan Basilio fought, too.
I think it's very close. Basilio is highly overlooked for his ability to cut off the ring and mix accurate punches up, and he was really quite fluid and utilized good upper body movement. Lamotta was forged in a hotter fire though, fighting so many greats along the way, including many of the Murderers Row bunch no one else would look at.
LaMotta is vastly overrated but Head to Head he just has too much size and strength to go with his modicum of skill.
Wow I listed 2 popular tough ATG fighters from different decades here and this is it. I guess to get almost any kind of decent response around here anymore Marciano or Carnera has to be in the title to grab the current crops attention. Sad
Probably LaMotta , but Robinson fought Jake 7 times while saying he'd never fight Basilo ever again after winning the second fight.
I would have to favor Jake as well, as others said, over the 15 the weight and strength is probably to much … but I do not see a stoppage. He was giving up weight to a strong prime Fullmer twice and I think he went 14 and 12.. man great fight here Jake and Carmen
