I don't really care too much about the HW division but if I have to pick one, then I woud say Golota. I thought at one point he was the real deal but he's far from that, and I can't understand how his fans are so blind and can't see that this guy is preety much done.

How many chances you need :think .... I only hope that he comes back and somebody kick his ass again, so we won't have to see that stupid thread "The Golota Express". :dead

    Juan Carlos Gomez

He was the best in cruiserweight and did a good fight against Sam. But then, I went to the USA, where he was very lazy at the gym. Out of shape, he lost against Yanqui Diaz. Later he came back to germany. He was close to a title shot, when he outboxed Oliver McCall for the #2-Spot of the WBC rating. But it was revealed, that he took cocaine.

    Sam Peter.

For someone who was going to 'save' the HW's, he's been exposed as an unschooled, jab-eating phony. It's going to take a lot of work just to make him an a boxer with even average skills.

He completely destroyed and ruined Riddick 'Fat Daddy' Bowe over two fights, thus ridding the world of another fraudulent champion.

Peter couldn't even handle a fat middleweight - and lost to him, for God's sakes - in the first fight.

    Advantage: Golota

Plus, I don't think Golota was ever supposed to 'save' the division as Sam was. He was just the latest Great White Joke Hope who happened to have Bowe's number.

Peter was the 'savior.' Savior of what? All unskilled, fat rabbit-punchers around the world who hope to one day lose 10/12 rounds in a HW championship fight?

Riddick Bowe. He had two legendary fights against Holyfield, and that's it. He looked like he was destined for greatness, but his tenure as champ saw two very weak defenses against undeserving opponents. Outside of Holyfield, he never fought the class of the division (unless you count Golota, which I don't).

Golata lost those fights. Peter one at least one.

But I don't think much of Peter either.

He did, and also got 10 more years of $$$ out of them. Those fights 'made' Golota and are the reason why he still fights. Kind of like how people think they may one day see the 'old' Tyson or something.

Bowe was ruined by those fights, and Golota destroyed him in both. It was like when RJJ got DQ'd against Montel Griffin - sure, he got the 'L,' but anyone who watched the fight knows who got the better of the fight.

Bowe retired a lonnnnng time ago; Golota still fights. I don't want to be cruel, so I'll just stop there.

Anyway, if Sam Peter can one day say that he retired/ruined a legitimate HW star (or MW star, we'll start at that low bar), he'll begin to approach Golota's accomplishments. Maybe Peter still will be fighting at 36 or whatever Golota is (actually, Peter might be fighting at 36 right now, for all we know).

I know this: Golota never came into a fight carrying 20+ lbs. of extra fat around his midsection like Peter has. I'm no big Golota fan - he sucks - but at least he gives himself some kind of chance. "Fat Man Sam" doesn't even seem to take the sport seriously.

If Peter's lucky, he'll be able to take out an aging Maskaev. But does anyone think Peter will be in better shape than Maskaev if they do fight? Me either. Which means Oleg will have a solid chance to give Peter a late-round "Rahman" onto Jim Lampley's lap once Peter gasses as all overweight fighters eventually do.

I have also never seen Peter abjectly surrender the way Golota has on numerous occasions.

I am not sure how "ruining" another fighter is an accomplishment. This is a sport, and the point is to win.

I can think of at least one of Golota's old foes who probably wishes he would have surrendered even sooner than he ended up doing.

I also wish McClellan had surrendered earlier against Benn.

    Sometimes, 'surrender' is smart.

Believe me, as any critic of "Big Fatty" Bowe would tell you, Golota accomplished a ton in those two fights. He also appears to have all of his faculties, as well as a ton of $$$. He also has had a far longer career than Bowe. Who won the fights again?

Bowe's 'victories' would be classified as "Pyrrhic victories." That is, he won, but at a permanent cost.

Peter can't even win the 'battle of the training table,' let alone a HW war.

Like I said, never has KO'ing Jeremy Williams gotten somone so much.

Peter is Brewster, just a little fatter. The only legit HW he fought spanked him like a baby for 10/12 rounds. With his lack of defense and scarcity of skills, he's going to absorb a huge amount of punishment and likely have a short career. You can't take the kinds of shots Peter is open to and fight for very long.

He's an entertaining fighter - I'll watch him fight, because someone's always going to get beat up or KO'd when he fights, like this:

I love a good scrap, just like any other fight fan.

But a 'savior?' No. Sam doesn't have the discipline or skill to save anything. I just hope when he fights he is within 10-15 lbs. of what would be a good fighting weight for him. That's about all I exect out of Peter.

Well, that and rabbit punches. Same as you could always expect Lenny Lewis to hold and hit, no fight with Sam Peter is complete without Sam's rabbit punches and Sammy eating a steady diet of jabs.
