I don't believe that any of the organisations are without fault but recently the IBO seem to be the one International Org making positive steps into Australian boxing. The Geale, Mundine bout imo put the IBO's name firmly into the spotlight and Green, Jones was a massive coup for them. This next bout imo will be a case of one step forward and two steps back. Regardless of the outcome, no one can possibly convince me that this fight should take place. Justifying actions by comparing with other orgs is not the way to explain things. BTW regarding the 1st post call it bollocks if you like, but it did happen.
Pretty much agree with Patrick here. Well done IBO on the two steps forward - very well done in fact - but this is a step back that's hard to comprehend. Find it hard to grasp that Grange drove this and then Mundine's crowd have just come along for the ride. Also can't believe Mundine hasn't copped more flack for the move. It's like a big kid at school backing down to another big kid to instead pick on a little kid - where's the courage in that!
I dont know what's so hard to understand about this fight :huh Mundine is the 160 champ so if he moves in any direction he's in the top few in the next division.....and I thought Medley was 27-2 and only lost in world title fights....and he's the regional IBO champ at 154. Now I find it hard to count when I run out of fingers but I'm sure 90% of aussie ESB has picked Medley....so why are you complaining about the fight/ title shot.....looks like its going to be a *******?
If I was in team Mundine I would think the following 1. Anthony is looking for titles in a number of divisions 2. We know Geale will get a shot at the vacant 160 title 3. Anthony will fight for the 154...win it then move back to 160 4. Let Geale win and build a bigger profile to hype number II 5. If Geale has a title early next year Then choc will fight him again 6. Wow thats 6 time 3 division World champ :hey
Funnily enough, you cite a regional IBO title as grounds for Medley to fight for a world title. Yet despite holding a regional strap his IBO world ranking was #54. So it certainly did nothing for his ranking. Peter Mitrevski jnr is fighting for a vacant IBF pan pac belt on Friday night. If he wins, can we expect to see Pete fight for an IBF world title? Why not right? I mean Pete Mitrevski in a title fight? perfect. ticks all the boxes - if it was the IBO LOL
No doubt Grange drove this. They did very well actually. With Mundine skipping a Geale rematch, it allows two grange fighters to fight for IBO belts. Medley v Choc Geale v Soliman? (whoever, Geale will still fight for the vacant 160 belt) So Grange kill two birds with the one stone. Great work on their part...if you can get it
