Instead of Nunn, we get the limited, much less athletic and able, lalonde

    What a huge disappointment

had it been Nunn, we all know it would have been uncompetitive.

Maybe even worse than his loss to Norris

Whereas Ray was unable to compete with younger, faster fighters, Floyd was excelling (Canelo, Marquez, Pac) and went 50 - 0

Whatever Ray did, Floyd did better

He wasnt washed up. That's just their natural defense mechanism kicking in. they dont know what else to come up with and they dont DARE give Norris his rightful due

Ray may have been the more complete fighter but Terry had the huge edge in speed and that alone was too much for ray to overcome

Ray couldnt deal with him on the inside when Terry's speed tripled and from the outside, Terry had that extra dimension of maneuverability and Ray could never cope with a moving target.

this wasnt Ayub Kalule, Dave Green, or lalonde we're talking about!

Whatever Ray Leonard did, Floyd did better

Actually, I just used numbers and proved that SRL has nothing on FMM.

Yes he has done. He's been world champion in four weight classes, from LMW to LHW, including being lineal champ in two of them.
If I'm not mistaken, he's the only boxer ever to be undisputed at SMW.
And Toney is also a lock for the top 50. He was champ in 3 weight classes, including lineal champ at MW.

Mayweather beats Leonard every day of the week and twice on Saturdays.
He's just the better boxer, you simply can't deal with that.
Oh and btw, I've hated on Mayweather with a passion and wanted him to loose every time he fought, I was praying someone will knock his f.ucking teeth off, but it never happened. The man was simply that good, it's time for people to come to terms with that.

Sure buddy, keep telling yourself that.

That's simply your opinion that they were better.
Mayweather would have beaten them too, and much easier.
He'd have easily frustrated and outpointed Duran.
Hagler was on the decline, he was significantly slower and his stamina was also not the same.
Hearns in the only question mark, but Hearns was also beating SRL until he got tired towards the end.

Do you have a top 50? If so, would you care to post it?

Based on all information prior to, it was far more logical to install Hagler as a 4-1 favorite over Ray than it was installing Ray as a 3-1 favorite over Norris.

As to 87 Marvin, there was no accounting for his significant blunder (mental) in choosing the tactics he employed over the first 3-4 rounds.

As to the 91 version of Ray, even before their fight, Norris himself highlighted the deteriorations in Ray's game - including the observation that Ray had been caught and knocked down by shots (in several fights prior) that wouldn’t have touched Ray in his prime.

Floyd did do it better in avoiding his most challenging competition as and when that competition presented. Floyd's skills in evasion were not just confined to his performances in the ring. They were also borne out in his considerate selectivity and timing.

Even with the "side how" matches he now participates in; Floyd could ONLY bring himself to get in the ring with the lesser of the two Paul brothers. The integrity of these matches is questionable at any rate.

I will admit I am probably doing this and I also admit the win over Canelo was good.

Btw what would you consider Mayweather's signature fights that are equivalent to Leonard vs Hagler, Hearns, Duran? I am genuinely interested as want to watch and compare.

I was checking the records and I see when Leonard fought them Hagler had not lost since 1976, Duran since 1972 and of course Hearns and Benitez were unbeaten. I know from your other posts you don't think Leonard beat Hagler but do these stats impress you? Also worth noting some people don't think Mayweather beat Castillo.

I am also weighing up equivalent opponents as far as being what we acknowledge are ATG fighters.

Would you consider Pacquiao, De La Hoya, Alvarez and Mosely ATGs to be roughly equal to Hagler, Hearns, Benitez and Duran as far as quality wins?

I am just trying to get a better idea of how you rate these different generations of fighters. I also pointed out I rate Mayweather's Canelo win, some people say he was green but I suppose you could say that about Hearns when he fought Leonard.

If we see these are roughly equivalent it is also worth considering Pacquiao, De La Hoya and Mosely were coming into the Mayweather fights with a spate of recent losses. I don't know if this means much but interested in your opinion?

Btw I also rate Mayweather's wins over Castillo (II), Corrales and Marquez but I do not see these two fighters as being in the same league as Hearns, Duran or Hagler, albeit very good fighters.

I don't think you are. SRL's win over Hagler is better compared with Mayweather's over De La Hoya. They were both wins against naturally bigger, non-weight drained, slightly faded, but far from shot, ATG's. Both were close, debatable SDs, though neither were robberies. Both great wins, Hagler the greater win, imo.

The 22-year old Canelo that Mayweather beat was pre-prime*, likely weight drained** and so clearly not as good a comparison to SRL's win over Hagler, as FM's over De La Hoya. Unsurprisingly, Mayweather was way more dominant vs Canelo than De La Hoya, which is a good indicator as to the relative merits of my point.

*I'd have a difficult time believing the LWM Trout, that Canelo fought immediately before Mayweather would beat the SMW & LHW versions of Smith & Kovalev that Canelo beat in far more dominant fashion. As you'd expect with a 22-year old, Canelo was definitely pre-prime vs FM.

**The bout was at 152lbs. The growing Canelo was reported as 172lbs on the night versus Trout in the fight before, 152lbs must have killed him (to be balanced, making 154lbs vs Trout likely inhibited him to a degree, too). I think I read Canelo was 165lbs in the ring vs Mayweather, which made me wonder if there was a non-publicised rehydration clause, such as the one that was eventually revealed Canelo's team had negotiated vs Kovalev.
