Think Satterfield deserves a nod. Was a stepping stone that often knocked down or out the up and comers.

To me, Strickland and his like weren’t journeymen ... that’s what I’d call a professional opponent. Zero chance they beat anyone except someone off the street or a fellow opponent (in matches arranged just often enough to give them a win so a commission would allow the next series of losses).

Buck is more of a journeyman.

And I think a gatekeeper like Glen Johnson is a cut above journeyman ... a journeyman should be a live underdog in that he’s going to compete and maybe, just maybe, notch an upset win every once in a while but is not a contender for the majority of his career — journeymen are the ones who are a notch below contender (but might manage a ranking for a minute like Jesse Ferguson, who can make a good argument for ‘greatest journeyman heavyweight ever.’

I’d rate Marcos Geraldo as a top middleweight journeyman. Gave some of the big names tough fights (particularly Leonard, who was really a welter fighting up) but couldn’t get over at that level. Beat some tough guys but most of those were fellow journeymen. Found his ceiling at being Mexican and California champ a few times along the way and had a cup of coffee in the middleweight rankings but couldn’t sustain that status and never fought for a world title.

Actually Jesse Ferguson has a good shot at being one of the greatest journeymen ever.

I'd like to nominate Tony "KO King" Gardner. Clubfighter with upside. Goes on a local KO tear over state champs and journeymen themselves while getting a push from Pat O' Grady. Gets a title shot against Elisha Obed. Fought a run of ranked middleweights and retires. Then becomes a trainer, a matchmaker and a promoter. Did everything you could do as a journeyman.

The real answer is probably Kristian Laight or Reggie Strickland, those guys mastered being a journeyman.

Most robbed fighter in boxing history, good chin and never backed down. Played and danced as much he punched, which is to say he did both at every opportunity. Totally unique style and a warrior to his core.

I don't know his resume super well, but I just love watching him fight.
