I've been thinking of doing this for a long time, so here it goes! I've made a list about the guys I think are among the most skillful today in the sport. I've gone back and forth about some names, added some, removed some, and got the 9 fighters I believe should definitely be up there, plus an extra option for anyone who thinks there's someone else I've missed. I have to clarify this: When I say "skilled", I mean a fighter's technical abilites in the ring, speaking of natural talent along with skills he's got through hard work and training. I'd like you people to judge based on the following elements a boxer can have: Elusiveness, Quickness, Footwork, Speed, Defense, Counter-punching ability, Explosiveness, Offensive arsenal, Ring generalship. Please DON'T vote thinking of "Pound-4-Pound" or "greatness" or "legacy" or "resume" or "accomplishments" or "who's my favourite fighter"! It's about pure technical skills here. Plus, don't base your vote thinking of what could a fighter have accomplished had he fought in another era or vs better opposition. I'm talking about RIGHT NOW, about active fighters and I'd like you to compare active fighters of THIS era. I'll mention a recently retired fighter in Floyd Mayweather to explain what I mean: Even if Mayweather had fought only bums and even though he didn't fight the best fighters @147, people would still see the man has amazing technical skills. That's more or less how I want you to vote in this one. To help you a little more, the runner-up names I've got besides the given options are: Mikkel Kessler, Chad Dawson, James Toney, Nonito Donaire, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Felix Sturm and Juan Manuel Lopez (although he's still young and untested). Thanx to all the people that helped me make this list through pm's (SP, p4p, sr, St, GG, Bsl, WTR, Arr, McG), I really appreciate it. :thumbsup So... who you got? Vote and discuss! :good PS: This is a MULTIPLE CHOICE POLL, which means you can vote for more than one fighter!!!
Nope, I'm talking about technical skills, a fighter can't work much on his power anyway. :good And I repeat: This is a multiple choice poll! People can vote for MORE THAN ONE FIGHTER!!!
Hopkins with Marquez right behind him.. but great choices there. I also greatly admire Mikkel Kessler but I think he is just such a perfectly schooled but he is defiantly up there too. Andrey
Cory Spinks is underrated, i am a fan of Jermaine Taylor. But he was beaten by Cory Spinks when they fought....
then why did you put speed in there? a fighter can work on his handspeed as much as he can work on his power.
I think one can improve his speed a little more than the actual pop in his punches... but then again it's just my opinion. :think
Any chance you can elaborate why you think Kessler's name is worth breathing in this sort of thread? Personally, I cannot conceive of why he may be considered one of the most skilled boxers in the world.
