I was watching Setanta last night and Steve Bunce said that Hopkin's has moved from 160 to 175 not by drinking beer and eating kebabs, but by adding muscle to his shoulders and the top of his legs. He was under the impression that Hopkin's will be the strongest man Calzaghe has faced.

After trying to mix it early on with Bika and Kessler, Calzaghe got his jab working instead of brawling.

Is Hopkin's stronger than Bika + Kessler?

Or can Calzaghe hold his own if it turns into a brawl?

I expect Hopkins to be stronger in round 1 than either of these other men were in round one. In round 8? We shall see.

Kessler is HUGE for a SMW.

Agreed , Im surprised how many under estimate Hopkins physical strength. This is the same guy that was able to out muscle RJJ who is not slouch in the strength department.

Kessler is strongest of the three physically, hits harder and more accurate than the other two. But Calzaghe could take his great punches because he saw most of them coming.

Hopkins is the master of putting you off-balance and place great, accurate shots seemingly out of nowhere... you can't prepare for a punch you can't see, so Hopkins can definitely do more damage than Kessler even if Mikkel is the stronger of the two.

Hopkins has been adding honing his body for longer so, although he's older, he's quite possibly stronger than Bika or Kessler. He certainly looks strong in the photos I've seen.

Bika and Kessler were both VERY strong though; stronger than Calzaghe yet Joe was still able to prevail.

I just hope that Joe fights the right fight and uses his speed and workrate.

Kessler is undoubtedly the biggest puncher but Bernard is physically stronger, stronger in the sense that I think he is more capable of pushing Joe around in the tussles.

Bika was able to push Joe around at some points, but judging from Bernard's physique he looks like stronger than Bika as well. Mackie certainly did a marvelous job scuplting this ageless warrior into LHW.

I dont think Hopkins will be very much stronger than Kessler to be honest, he will not be as strong as Kessler late in the fight I dont think.

It is likely Hopkins will be a bit stronger than both, yeah; and that's saying something because Bika is a monster and Kessler is very strong.

hopkins is able to impose his will on other fighters. physically, he knows how to use his strength effectively, through clinches, angles and footwork. but the important thing to look at is that, unlike beika and kessler, hopkins is the best at applying his physical strength at the appropriate times.

It doesn't really matter if Kessler is stronger, because he wasn't hugging and holding like Aunt Theresa at a family reunion

This is true, I think. Kessler doesn't really come into it. Bika does...but not as much as Hopkins, who likes to wrestle more even than Bika.
