Who's to blame for Chavez Jr. blatantly ducking Sergio Martinez?

he has not been champ a week. I wouldn't call it blatant. Fact is he is not ready for Martinez. Chavez should fight Sturm and see if he can beat him. Even if he goes 12 with Sturm and struggles, the experience will help him.

Bob Arum said that Martinez is not a PPV attraction and that a fight with Chavez doesnt make sense, this was widely reported earlier this week.

However, Peter Manfredo and Marco Antonio Rubio, being PPV mega stars, are being mentioned as opponents.

He is not a champ of any kind, he is a belt holder.

And that belt was stolen from the true lineal champ.

If he is not championship quality yet, then he should not be called a "champion".

As a first defence neither of them are bad. Particularly Rubio, that would be a good fight.

Julio Cesar Chavez and his team are not ducking Martinez at this point. I feel it is more strengthening his case to compete with a pound for pound star such as Martinez. Bob Arum doesn't need to lie as he usually does. In this case he has a fighter who is willing to fight the best, but blatantly isn't ready to. Rubio followed by Pirog or Macklin would be good fights between contenders vying for a shot at Martinez.

Is Felix Sturm ducking Martinez? After all he has been a champion at Middleweight for years and from what I recall has shown no interest in fighting the best there:Martinez?

Sturm will never fight anyone with a pulse after he got stopped by an old shot Casteilejo.

Sturm will hold on to that WBA belt in Germany FOREVER!

I almost agree with you but I don't. He won the title he is champ. He can defend against quality opposition at this point or not, but I did not make the rules. He won the title so I think he is champ. I do not believe in catchweights but most people seem to go with that now, which seems much worse than winning a title. At least he weighed in at the weight limit.

So we are saying the champ isnt ready for the best in his weight? Lol . Then he shouldnt be the champ right? I was under the impression that the champ should at the top fighting the contenders. Bottom line we all know who the true mw champ is

Void has been ducking Pac for a long time now, and Void is ducking Martinez also. Why is that?

Dammit guys, Pacquiao took several years and quite a lot of fights before Roach's techniques got ingrained into his fighting style. Why are you guys asking this kid to go ahead and get the crap beaten out of him by Martinez?

Why aren't you calling Canelo out for this? Isn't he supposedly better than Chavez Jr?

Or why aren't you guys calling Martinez out for not challenging real worthy opponents like Pirog, NDam, or Golovkin?

Heck, even Bute and the rest of the 168 pounders?

Hey, all of the other MW champs in the division are ready and waiting for Martinez. As how it goes right now, titlists ARE contenders. Not all titlists are champions in today's boxing. At least with Jr, he fought an actual top 10 contender at 160 to get his championship belt.

Oh spare me this nonsense. Geale and Sturm don't want to fight Martinez for the time being and Pirog has a mandatory defense he has to make (not to mention no heat whatsoever). And I'm sorry people wanting Chavez to fight the belt's rightful owner is so offensive to your sensibilities. But yes, we should instead laud him for getting a clearly disputable decision in his backyard against a featherfisted opponent he outweighed by 15 pounds. What a champ.

it's funny how Martinez is encouraged to fight a soft touch rather than a real threat. what a joke.

This is what I do not understand. I'm betting a few in this thread were criticising Chavez/His team not so long ago because he was being manouevred into a title shot without proving himself.

He edges Sebastian Zbik and 1 week later there simply MUST be arrangements made for him to fight one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. I think its unfair expectations personally.
