All 4 are amongst my all time fav fighters, mostly Hagler is my least favourite but I really like him too, my favourite changes quite often but it used to always be between Leonard & Duran, in the past year or so I have held Hearns in the same regard.... its really difficult & there is no clear cut favourite for me which is why I think I can be non-biased when answering questions on these 4 greats. I cant take my eyes off Duran in the 1st fight with Leonard, it was Roberto at his best..... I cant take my eyes off Leonard in the 2nd Duran fight, that was Ray at his best.... How many can say they enjoy watching the winner beat the loser in BOTH those fights ? I can watch MMH-TH without siding with one or the other, just to enjoy those 3 rds.... I wasnt comfortable seeing Duran KO`d by Hearns for some reason, its like it shouldnt happen to Duran... but Hearns deserved that achievement on his record after the SRL & MMH setbacks, amazing fighter. I could talk about these 4 all day long so I`ll stop here. :good
Thomas Hearns was my favorite. Underrated fighter who is seen as an all time great, but is even greater than what people rank him. Only weakness was his tendency to brawl and get hit on the chin. The guys he fought in the 1980's was a whose who of all time great fighters and contenders. He fought them all.
Yeah, that was a really heartbreaking day for the me also. Duran was by far my fav. fighter and when he sat on the stool when entering the ring and then seemed to have no fire. I started to worry. When he took off his robe before the intro's I knew trouble had arrived in town and there would be no repeat of the Moore glory. The only enjoyment I got the whole night was seeing Jimmy Paul ko. Alvin "Too Sweet" Hayes after the pink dance number he did entering the ring. It's sad though that Alvin killed himself in the last 10 years or so. But, being a Duran fan was awesome. Guys who were not around then really can't appreciate the greatness and esteem Duran was held in in the 70's. And after Leo. 1, he NEVER fought w/ that kind of pure murderhuntthemdown style again. The counterpuncher he became after Leo. 1 was NOTHING like the prime hellcat Duran from 1967-June 20, 1980. When Hearns ko'd him, it was putrid. But the great Duran still came back after a career and a half to fight a brutal war w/ a HARDpunching win Barkley and will himself to win. None of the other 3 came close to the epic fighter or career that was Duran. Everything he did against those guys after Leo/ 1 was past his prime by far.:viking
Robbie, if you like Duran so much.... why would you have the Hearns KO on Duran as your signature ? You wont catch me with any sig`s of Morales on his ass.
If you asked me this a few years ago I'd say Hearns in an instant, but recently I'd say Duran. He's one of the last legends in a throwback mold. His Lightweight days were awesome, his defeat of Leonard is incredible, his 'No Mas' incident makes him infamous, his later last bursts of talent/experience in the Moore & Barkley fights are inspiring. Don't get me wrong about the other guys either. They aren't called the "Four Kings" for nothing.
I have Hearns knocking out Duran as my signature because it's one of the most spectacular KO's in the history of the sport. I'm a Hearns fan as well. So if Roberto is on the recieving end, tough luck.
