Who's your favourite non-British fighter?

Sergio Martinez- didn't take up the sport until he was 21, spent most of his career fighting in Argentina for peanuts but when his time came in the spotlight he put on an excellent performance against Cintron only to get robbed twice in the same fight. Plenty would have got disheartened by that but Martinez came back to have a great 'losing' effort against Paul Williams where it could easily have gone the other way and then went up to middleweight to outclass Kelly Pavlik and become the linear Middleweight champion of the world at 35 years old. An inspiration and a gentleman.

Miguel Cotto- an old-school warrior who has ducked nobody throughout his illustrious career and fought his heart out every time he has stepped between the ropes.

Michael Katsidis- as with Cotto a warrior who has ducked nobody. Also have to love a guy who has a full-on sparring session in his changing room minutes before a fight.

This thread has made me realise that there isn't a single Brit I consider as one of my favourites. Is this right? :think

 

Did replym to this but thought it was a bit trollish so changed it. Depends what styles you like I guess, I think Froch would be on a few lists if this included brits

 

Nothing wrong with that, shows you're a fan of boxing overall to a certain degree. We can't have a go at people that have a lot of British fighters as their favourites either though, as there's obviously a natural affinity towards fighters from ones neck of the woods, because we see more of them, get to know their personality and so on.

 

Yeah tbh Smudger i find it hard to back British fighters, used to love Eubank and others but some i couldn't because i feel they were to hyped or untested or spoiled but i like the new batch but i prefer the American fighters. Technically more refined and also i love skills. My favorite players in Football ain't non league players, there top level guys like Messi. Same with boxing i love the guys who do things i couldn't do.

Love everything about his style from an offensive, technical standpoint. A precise, heavy jab that he uses to really damage his opponent rather than paw with it and find his range. Sets up his power punches beautifully off it, great 1-2, awesome left-hook and vicous uppercuts when he mixes them in. He puts his punches together with such ease and delivers them precisely with speed and power. Not to mention he's got a helluva heart.

Easily my favourite all-time fighter, and nobody comes close for me. Had the heart of a true champion, could absorb an enormous amount of punishment. Just a warrior in the ring, he would never stop working and he'd never give you even a second to rest. And then there's obviously that left hook and the brutality of his bodywork.

 

It's probably Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez for me. Although both haven't got long left, they've had terrific careers where they always fight with heart, skill and a real passion. As far as I'm aware, they've hardly complained about anything even though they've had some tough breaks in the ring.

 

Current - Juanma ; Juan Manuel Lopez ; love this guys all action style ... brutal finisher (especially his elbow :yep)

Past - theres only one marvellous Marvin Hagler ; after drawing in his title fight against Antofermo he turned into something special ... an all time great

 

:deal There's not really a Brit fighter that's really 'doing it for me' in a really no homo kind of way. Although there's a lot of prospects coming through, I'm just not really blown over by them. I see a follow up thread coming up :yep
I'm a big fan of Katsidis atm, got his career set the other day, he's just amazing. His ring entrance, I think, is pretty intimidating, the fact that he comes down the ring dressed as Achilles is one thing, but you know he's got the same warrior mentality. He'll leave everything in the ring, and if you don't do the same, you're getting beat up. See Kevin Mitchell as an easy example. The way he goes about his business is admirable. He's a far cry from what I typically like, which in a weird way shows why he's loved by everyone. How can you not like Katsidis?

Did used to really like Pavlik but he's been disappointing of late

Pacman for excitement

 

Don't really have a favourite, but love to watch Pacquiao, Gamboa, Katsidis, Margarito (couldn't bring myself to disown him) and Martinez.

 

I forgot Abraham. Abraham is probably my favorite fighter today.

 

Librado Andrade. The fast food worker, come good.
Win, lose or draw, always a true gentlemen and I hope he manages to get another few decent paydays before he retires.
I definitely don’t want him to stay in the sport much longer as he’s already been tagged more times than Mick Jaggers suitcase.
