Who was better for boxing? who do you enjoy watching ? who gave you the better fights? who is the guy you will think about when you are reminiscing 35 yrs down the road?

I still think about and remember guys like Duran, Arguello, and Hagler the thrills they gave me wether in victory or defeat, made me love boxing.

honestly I will remember the incredible things Pac has done and the run he had, no one thought he could do what he did, his reach exceeded his grasp he gave us the greatest fights of this generation, wars with Morales and Marquez, thrilling Knockouts, FOR ME AND ITS MY PERSONAL OPINION PAC IS THE GREAT OF THE LAST 20 YRS PERIOD, IN TERMS OF THRILLS CHILLS AND AGAINST ALL ODDS, ITS NO CONTEST BUT FEEL FREE TO VOTE, IM BIASED.

Thrills pacman for sure he impressed and even being knocked out that fight was pure amazment he was really beating marquez on the cards and by punch. He got kocked down got up knocked marquez down and was possibly on his way to a ko but marquez man beingthat amazing counter ouncher and will to never give up got that single most amazing shot in. Floyds career is impressive but he literally ducked everyone in 2007-2008 right when the welterweight divison was starting to get heated up that is the single most unforgivaable thing he did in his quit e amazing career

You can never say that Louis, Ali, Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Arguello, Hearns spent their careers ducking fighters or that they failed to meet their greatest rivals, and so for me Mayweather will never go down as great as those fighters, Mayweather for all his technical brilliance simply cannot get credit for Marquez beating Pacquiao, its the thing that forever keeps him from being in the same breath as those greats I listed, and yet I have no problem placing Pac among those same immortals.

Who did he duck? Pacquiao? Didn't take the test and would have always lost anyway, styles mismatch.

Margarito? Even more of a mismatch. It would have been comical. Besides (how quickly we forget) - Mayweather at one point agreed in principle on terms but it was Arum who scuttled negotiations.

Tszyu would have been tough, but Mayweather called him out. Tszyu didn't answer. Besides, they fought on rival networks when this would have been feasible.

Mosley? They hardly ever campaigned in the same division; Mosley was always higher up. When Mayweather climbed to welterweight in 2005, Mosley was in the middle of what proved to be an 8-bout stint @ 154lb (from Marquez through Vargas II). Mosley then moved down, reestablished himself at welterweight and landed the Mayweather payday. You can say it was "too late" all you want - plenty thought Mosley was still in top form after the Margarito beating and quite a few picked him to stop Mayweather even then. Besides, their ring experience was nearly the same by that point so Mayweather was hardly the much younger fresher guy. PLUS - nail in the coffin regarding this one - let's also not forget Mosley's plan to "go on vacation, spend time with the family, get some dental work done" after Vargas II, when he was a light middleweight, when Mayweather was still brand new to welterweight and had been at 140lbs just the year before, yet Mayweather had issued public challenges.

Williams? Unrealistic. His resume was paper thin during Mayweather's early welter run. Right when he started building momentum and raising his profile enough to maybe get his name in the hat of possible dance partners, he got upset by Quintana. As soon as he avenged the loss, he was up to 154lbs. So that one is fiction.

I've even seen it claimed that he ducked Stevie Johnston at lightweight, or Kermit Cintron at welterweight, or some random at featherweight. :patsch  Those don't even merit being dignified with any further address.

The only legitimate one you can term a duck is "prime" Cotto from 2006-2008, when they could have unified the WBA and WBC titles. There was no reason not to. Lots of money on the table. Instead we got DLH & Hatton (not that either of those weren't respectable when he fought them) - and retirement. Bad look on Floyd's part.

For me to consider a fighter an all time great. They must maintain the level of performance throughout their career. Pacquio needs to redeem himself in order to show that he still has it. I just don't think any fighter can be on the ATG list if they end their career on a losing streak.

Good post. Peep the greatest 80 fighters and see how their careers ended. A lot of them get stopped or lost badly. Few go unconscious though.

Manny P. Floyd mayweather might be the better fighter thou. The thing is since floyds lightweight days he has been cherry picking his opponents. He is like us version joe calzaghe, that is saying something. Floyd had changes to fight terrific fights against good fighters instead we fight fans got guys like ortiz and guerrero. When has floyd took last time fight where his opponent isnt massive underdog(for a reason)?! floyd might be the super star of the north americans but pacman is the man whose thrilling fights kids will be watching from 20years from this.

This is seriously the dumbest comment ive ever read on this site. Ive been reading esb for years and this is only the second time im posting, ive never been so compelled to react to some dumb remark here but....this is so ****ing stupid it is ridiculous. ALL great fighters go out on bad streaks, Willie Pep, SRL, SRR, Ali, RJJ, Tyson, Armstrong, Chavez, Dempsey, Louis, Duran....i could go on and on and on you clearly DKSAB...like seriously. Thats like boxing rule number 1, you dont leave this game until you are hurt, humbled and broken no matter how good you are.

id say mayweather because i truly enjoy the sweet science and i am aware of bob arums record at being a slimeball.

without a doubt though pacquiao has brought more new fans to the sport yer most of them are casual but it sure gave an injection of popularity the sport needed as UFC and MMA were becoming popular, whereas i feel most long time boxing fans were always going to support the sport by getting behind mayweather
