With a win, who do you think will be propelled further in history as a legend? Not necessarily who is a better fighter between the two, but who "benefits" more from this win in terms of boxing history?

    Cotto:
    - With a win, becomes 15th man ever to be a champ in 4 weight classes (MW, LMW, WW, LWW)
    - Coming up in weight to fight the bigger man
    - Fought better opposition overall
    - Has 3 ATG's on his resume in Pacquiao, Floyd, and Mosley
    - Battles adversity and has come up with big wins after losing

    Martinez:
    - Champion in 2 weight classes (LMW and MW)
    - Impressive record of 51-2-2
    - Has the better win of the two; KO of Williams
    - Has beaten very good, young fighters at an advanced age
    - 4 year reign as MW champion

    Thoughts?

Martinez has almost nothing to gain here aside from a potential fight with PAcquiao, Alvarez, or Mayweather. Nothing in terms of legacy.

Cotto is too damn small and hasn't had a serious win in years. Martinez has everything to lose and nothing to gain here. Opposite for Cotto, he has the chance to make history and get a shot at the big 3 moneymakers.

Even IF/When Cotto gets beat tonight I think history will turn SAT. into a David Vs. Goliath story & MC will come out unscathed. [HBO lapping his ballsac all night won't hurt either]

Cotto by a massive distance. This would be an historic win for him, whereas it would be a successful defence against a smaller guy for Sergio.

The reason I asked this is because I feel as if many don't RESPECK Martinez like they should. The guy is 51-2, with one of those losses being 14 years ago and the other being a very close decision to a guy he later blasted in 2 rounds, whom everyone was ducking.

A win for Martinez, for me, would really cement his legacy as one of the MW greats. I know people will **** on that, but it's my opinion.

    Cotto

He's a gatekeeper. A win over him does nothing for Martinez other than giving another successful defence over a semi-decent opponent on his resume.

obviously Cotto, Martinez will not get credit for beating a former WW, while Cotto will get huge props for beating the currently recognized MW champion

How much of a boost would Floyd's legacy get if he moved up and beat Martinez? He'd be a 6 weight world champion, have a solid resume with wins over Marquez, Canelo, Judah, Martinez, Cotto, Corrales, and Hatton, and be undefeated.

Mayweather would beat Martinez @ 160

But it's definitely Cotto here. I think Cotto could potentially pull this off.

no he wouldn't, because he'd demand a BS catchweight just like Pac's team wanted for Canelo, I'd pick they'd force Sergio to come down to 154 or lower
