I love how people gauge the level of competition. Go back and watch old Jones Jr. fights on youtube. listen to the commentators talk about the guys he was fighting back then and you'll see that a lot of the guys were highly touted and/or undefeated fighters. Jones destroyed them!

Remember he was a Jr. Middleweight in the Olympics. Yet he went on to win titles from middleweight to heavyweight. For most of his reign, he fought bigger, stronger guys and beat them senseless.

He didn't just beat, but embarrassed Virgil Hill, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Mike McCallum, Montell Griffin. He destroyed future titlist like Juio Cesar Gonzalez (who went on to give Michelcheski (the guy haters say Roy avoided) his only loss. Made titlists like Reggie Johnson, John Ruiz, and Lou De Valle look like amteurs.

Floyd could have the better reign if he disposes of Maquez.. and then beats a mosley, cotto, pacquiao, williams. However, he spent so much time on defense, that he seldom looked as dominating and unbeatable as Roy did in his prime.

Both have had GREAT careers and both are the best of their generation.

RJJ easily. He easily defeated Toney and Hopkins. That's bigger than anything Floyd's ever done, and by a mile.

I got Roy right now but PBF still has a chance.

If he fight and wins the tough fights against top talent.

RJJ right now but besides Toney and Hopkins his run consisted of sub par competiton. and i would say De la Hoya for Floyd was as much of a challenge as Toney or a green Hopkins was for RJJ. Floyd has enough time to surpass him

I dont think that De La Hoya should be considered as big a challenge as Toney was to RJJ. Oscar was a long way past prime. All Oscar had left was his size and chin. His speed and movment was a long way from what it was in his prime. His stamina was shocking at that stage of his career also.

Roy Jones Jr, and its not even close. Roy has always been an impressive fighter to watch when he was in his prime. When I first heard of Mayweather and watched him fight, I was expecting something higher, along the lines of Roy Jones and was left empty; he simply didn't dominate or win impressively as Roy did. I will give this example; in many sports, many times you have certain talented athletes that talent in other sports get sometimes compared to. One person I believe that dominated in his reign and was so good that made things look easy against his peers and high level competition was Michael Jordan. Now, if I were to compare Floyd and Roy Jones and think hmm.... who resembled or carried characteristics in the ring like Jordan did in the court, I would have to say without thinking 3 seconds, Roy Jones Jr.
