I would go with Leonard, Tommy could look Spectacular putting away Lesser Fighters, but so could Leonard, albeit he often chose to take his theatrical time about things,

What tips it for me is the Frailties Dept, Tommy was vunerable , and was shaken by many, Roldan, Olajide Kitchen (Longest Clinch Ever ? the Ref nearly neaded a crowbar to Get Tommy off James ) andries, and of course Barkley,

Both Great "Output" fighters, But Tommy much more Vunerable when copeing with serious incoming,

Leonord by some distane. Leonard has a case for top 10, ever, all time. Hearns doesn't have that type of clout.

Hearn's was exceptional in certain areas, but did not have the variation that Leonard could employ; all around Leonard is the better fighter. Not to downplay Tommy in any way, he is ATG in certain areas at any weight, but he had more *****s in his armor.

    Yeah, me too.

There wasn't really much between them to be honest. One was an A+ fighter, one was A++. That's about it.

Both great fighters. Leonard beat Hearns in a very close fight, but Hearns fought more guys on even terms, and took on bigger challenges IMO. (Rematch was Hearns really, but both were past their best)

Once Leonard got to the top, all the fights had to be on his terms, so he had the advantages. Hearns never did that, as far as I know never asked for that, and therefore didn't always have an advantage.

Hearns was an amazing boxer -- speed, reach, skill, and Godly power, especially in that lovely right hand. Leonard was just that little bit better, though.

SRL had it all, including a great chin. Hearns had everything but the chin. To me that's about the only thing that seperates them.

Leonard was the greater fighter due to his wins. In head to head terms, we saw how it went down, but we also saw that either man was capable of beating the other. Hearns seemed to have more impressive abilities at times, but in actuality, he had certain weaknesses SRL didn't.

They are about equal in each of their respective skills. Sugar Ray Leonard was an unbelievable boxer and a vastly underrated puncher. Tommy Hearns was a great puncher who had underrated boxing skills. Yet, I give the edge to Leonard because he had the better chin and I think he was slightly more versatile. IMO, SRL could fight great in close quarters or from a distance, it didn't really matter to him. Hearns, while he did fight inside occasionally, was less ineffective on the inside as he needed range to set up that tremendous straight right.

Good question though. Interesting side note...given the somewhat premature stoppage (in many people's opinion given the magnitude of the fight, the fact that Hearns was ahead, and Hearns was still blocking and not really taking that much punishment on the ropes), where would you rank Hearns relative to Leonard assuming Hearns wins their first fight?

Ray Leonard was the greater fighter.
But Hearns was I would say more talented just more flawed as well.
