that "great final round" for leonard wasnt really leonards imo. he had a nice rally on the final 20 seconds of the round. the early part of the going was hearns. and also the fact that the first fight could have gone to hearns (under current championship rule of 12 round-fight, hearns won it by a WIDE margin:D), and the second fight which was won by hearns CLEARLY although the victory was awarded to leonard, says a lot about the how hearns was above leonard (by a narrow margin of course). not to mention hearns accomplishment in other divisions. 6-div champs, who can beat it:good

youre a friend of leonard? thats cool! and why does he consider the lalonde fight his toughest. if i remember it right, he won it by KO.

You don't consider Leonard/Duran II a legit win for Leonard? On what basis. It was pretty clear to me and anybody else who was neither bias or stupid that Duran was getting frustrated by Leonard's movement and rather quit than suffer a unanimious decision defeat. Leonard deserves credit for going at Duran in the first fight and still being highly competitive in a razor close decision that didn't go his way. That's too his credit. There is no shame in losing to Roberto Duran.

Also, Leonard was the first man to defeat the unstoppable Tommy Hearns and in impressive fashion. The soft stoppage shouts are ridiclious ones, just more outlandish claims from delusional so-called boxing fans, but no big deal, that's nothing new - especially not round these parts. Fact is, Sugar Ray Leonard, like him or not, defeated Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, and Wilfred Benitez. All his losses bar the Duran fight came past his prime and aren't relevant in this topic of discussion.

You give preference to fighters who took all the risks? I guess fighting the man at middleweight after a three year lay off was a sure thing.

wow! angry a bit. anyway, i dont consider the duran II simply because:
    • severe weight drain. duran was a party animal, everbody know that. he was not in a competitive form going into the fight
    • duran beat leonrd in his best night and in his best weigh div. the duran II win wasnot enough to redeem him in duran I.
    • duran was getting frustrated by the leonard movement? dude, the fight was close, too close going into the no mas round. damn close, eventhough duran was drained in tht fight

sugar ray was the better fighter. hearns was no slouch though. but hearns fell short in the big fights, that is the basis for my choice.

and leonard got lucky in his big fights: duran II, hearns I (okey, its legit win:good) Hearns II, hagler. and he was lucky too to share the ring with a cokehead benitez (okey, its legit win:good)

    Not angry at all btw.

Okay. Let's not give credit to Sugar Ray because his opponent was a party animal.

The first Duran fight went Duran's way because Leonard chose to fight with him. As a side note, the decision was razor thin. So, as I said, it's to Leonard's credit. He avenged the loss twice.

I had Leonard comfortably ahead when the no mas came. Leonard was on his way to a unanimous victory. But, again, instead of downplaying Duran for quitting, we have to discredit Leonard for it. It's bull****.

Leonard knocked out Tommy and defeated Hagler, who had previously done a number over Tommy.

    Leonard..by very very clear decision.
