mayweather over mosley and here's why.

    1. No catchweight.

    2. Mosley was the man at WW having destroyed the previous man Margarito who destroyed cotto.

    3. Mosley got schooled for 11 rounds. Had one good round in round 2.

    4. Mosley had not suffered a beat down in his previous few fights, compare that to cotto who got the **** kicked out of him against margarito and went life and death against clottey as well as many observers had clottey winning that fight.

Cotto and Pacquiao both were at primes when they fought and Pac convincingly dominated and scored a KO victory. While Floyd got tagged and ran away a usual decision win over an aging fighter. I thought Cotto had an enormous edge over Pacquiao who hasn't faced a true WW before this matchup but to our surprise. I too picked Mosley over Floyd because I thought he has punching power and could par Mayweather speed, but age really made the diference in this fight. But still I like old Shane performance on this one cos he really made a mark to boxing fans on that round 2 by hurting Floyd. I bet on the back of Mayweather's mind eventhough he got props on winning over a Shane Mosley, he can never stop thinking he got embarassed by a old foe. Pac win over Cotto was far far better than Floyd over Mosley.

If you consider post-Margo Cotto still "prime", then you will have to acknowledge that he was never a great fighter.

the reason i bumped this is because after their respective fights, cotto went on to dominate foreman and mosley struggled against mora. does it tell something on the current status of both fighters when floyd and pac respectively fought them? have you changed your mind because of this?

Age wasn't a factor when pavilik got schooled by hopkins or when mosley beat the **** out of margarito.

    Pac over Cotto, definitely.

    Reason#1:

Mosley was 10 years past his peak, and had been inactive for quite a long time.

Cotto was 29, and coming off one of his best wins.

Of the two, it is unquestionable that Cotto was closest to his peak.

    Reason#2:

Pac had never fought a welterweight world champion before. He had had 1 fight at welter, but that night's version of Oscar was not a world champion calibre version, seeing that he was notably weight-drained. Cotto was a reigning welter world champ, and so it was Pac's first real welterweight fight (his first title fight there for certain), the guy had been at lightweight three fights previously.

Floyd had been at welter for 5 years, Shane for 10.

    Reason#3:

Pac dropped Cotto twice, got the stoppage, but in truth the referee's intervention should have been earlier, such was the damage being done.

Floyd got badly badly rocked twice by Mosley, then cruised to a points win. He didn't get a KO, or even a KD.

    Reason#4:

In Cotto's next fight, he looked very good vs Yuri Foreman.

In Shane's next fight, I thought he looked pretty awful vs Sergio Mora.

This reason is really further evidence to back up reason#1.

Cotto beating forman is nothing to brag about.

Mosley struggling against a slick middleweight who beat forrest is nothing to brag about either.

    Stopped reading right here.

How on earth is a gift decision over Clottey "one of his best wins"?

    Laugh worthy

    Laugh-worthy?? Nice work.

So Clottey would not be one of Cotto's top 5 wins in your opinion??

it's nothing to brag about but it tells the condition of each fighter right after the fight and indirectly tells how much they have left when they were fought by pac and floyd.

    Cotto's best wins IMO:

    1 - Mosley
    2 - Judah
    3 - Clottey
    4 - Quintana
    5 - Malignaggi/Torres

Shows how much you know about boxing. You make it sound like it easy to knock down shane mosley. Only bigger men have ever had the luxury of doing that.

I can't remember what I voted for, but I would say they were about equal...if not edging towards Cotto v Pacquiao.

Both dominant performances, Pacquiao overwhelmed Cotto with speed and angles on his way to a 12th round stoppage. Mayweather came back from a "hiccup" against Mosley and put in an equally dominant performance, if not more-so. Pacquiao in with his biggest opponent to date (not really counting De La Hoya)...Mayweather coming back from a long lay-off to face a true Welterweight, the joint #1 Welterweight in fact.

Cotto's previous performance against Clottey, not very convincing. Mosley's last performance against Margarito, a KO victory over an "unstoppable" opponent.
