Pacquiao, obviously. I'm an RJJ fan as well, but this isn't even close.

A guy who won his 1st world title at 160 then weighing 193 and cherrypicking a belt vs one of the worst hw champs ever (a guy who also got his ass handed to him by an overweight James Toney)

Number of weight divisions won titles in: 4

Number of wins above 3rd weight class: 1 (hw)

    vs

A guy who won his 1st world title at 112 and then weighed 144 and beat the **** out of one of the top 2 or 3 welterweights in the world in Miguel Cotto

Number of divisions won titles in: 8

Number of wins above 3rd weight class: 13 (sfw-lmw)

No contest at all. Jones was an excellent weight-jumper, whereas Pacquiao has a legitimate claim to be the greatest weight-jumper of the post-Walker Law era, alongside guys like Thomas Hearns.

pacquiao turned pro at 105. so if you are counting where they started, pac percentage wise is still more impressive from 105 to 154 = 47% increase while jones from 154 to 200 = 30% increase.

pacquiao also has the much better resume easily. jones has bhop and toney but pacquiao has morales, barrera, marquez and cotto.

In terms of skills and athleticism its jones, he is one of the most gifted ever in that department.

Pac got to lightweight fairly naturally and then has jumped up a bit in the last couple of years to WW/LMW. RJJ got to LHW and made his unnatural jump up to HW.

So that would be 135 to 150(;)) against 175 to 193.

Just another way to think about it.:thumbsup

Is Prime Cotto, and Margarito a better fighter than a prime Montell Griffin or Mike McCallum?

assuming that what you said is true, pac still is the slightly better weight jumper percentage wise with 11% while what jones did was only 10%. :good

No...Pacquiao can't even make it above 147lbs at this point.

Mike McCallum was centuries past his best by the time Jones fought him. The Cotto and Margarito that Pac fought were both better, and I'm a big McCallum fan.

Jones-McCallum isn't even as good a win as Pac-Barrera II, never mind Pac-Cotto or Pac-Margo.

Plus McCallum was a natural lightmiddle, to pour further scorn on this idea.

cotto is a better fighter than both of them, and it will show once cotto's career is over. having 2 wins against morales, barrera and win over marquez tops jones win over toney and bhop. pacquiao also have impressive wins against sasakul, ledwaba and hatton.

just would like to point out. when rjj was 17, he won the golden gloves at 139lbs. not a world title for sure, but it does sort of change how you look at how high jones went.

I think this point is being sorely overlooked here:

Jones started his world title career at 160, fought his way through 168 & 175, then moved up to 193 for one fight with a mediocrity, then later had another fight at cruiser in which he was stopped in 1 round.

Pacquiao started his world title career at 112, skipped 115 & 118, fought his way through 122 & 126, then moved beyond this for 14 fights (13 wins) from 130-150.

Clearly, Pacquiao moved up further, fought there longer, and beat better fighters there. There is no argument whatsoever that Jones was superior in this regard, none.

You say prime for prime Cotto is better than Mike McCallum and Griffin? You must not know anything about McCallum.
