I think he was just another of Griffo’s many, many, many, many draws.

Funny you say that because I was thinking the other day that Sergio Martinez was definitely one of the best fighters of his generation. He definitely ranked inside the top 5 P4P for a number of years and his only loss in his prime was a razor close fight with Paul Williams that could have gone either way.

Well I checked after I wrote my post. He's just another two of Dixon's many, many, many, many draws.

They drew multiple times. Griffo did hold a significant weight advantage, according to reports.

Baby Arizmendi split fights with Freddie Miller, took two off Armstrong (at least one considered to be entirely legit), and beat Chalky Wright. He was a pretty legit great who typically lands nowhere near the top in featherweight rankings.

    Yeah, cheers mate.

To be honest, I still find that really impressive. I don't know about you, but what I read about Young Griffo, the more I think he was ridiculously good. Having multiple draws (and I tend to view draws as essentially meaning that the two fighters are at or near the same level), with a guy as good as Griffo is supposed to be, while smaller, is very impressive.

Yeah, Griffo was by all accounts legitimately great, and though contemporary reports indicate that he might have gotten the better of Dixon in at least one of the fights, the general consensus is that Dixon acquitted himself well against a much larger guy who just happened to be of the finest pure boxers of his era.
