Why a catch weight to fight Chris Algieri?

algeiri started his pro career at welterweight he is physically bigger than pac.

 

pac's camp wanted to GRADUALLY come down in weight...they have plans to campaigh at 140

they didnt want pac to stress weighing at 140 during weigh-in...

 

Algieri's body frame can easily carry 147 lbs and beyond, he's naturally bigger than Pacquiao that I can see, which is why I believe Roach asked for a catchweight.
Team Pacquiao have got to believe that the higher the weight, the more it would benefit Algieri.

 

lol now i've heard it all. pacquiao drained algieri, a 140 pound champion/fighter to come in at 144. what difference does it make? the guy is fighting at a higher weight

The fight is for Pac's title and his people made the catch weight stipulation so it's only normal to assume that they anticipate an advantage in that. Maybe they didn't want him to come in at 147 and be 152 on fight night with a little weight behind his punches and moving like he moves. Having him come in at 144 prevents that and also takes him outta his comfort zone of 140.Not saying that's the way it is, just speculating like everyone else.

Canelo a 154 fighter went down 2 pounds = not drained according to flo mos

Algeiri a 140 fighter went up 4 pounds = drained according to flo mosatsch

flo mos are funny people, sometimes.

 

I don't really care, since Algeri is coming up, technically, and Pac is moving down. But, the WW title should not be on the line, if Algeri hasn't fought anyone at 147, yet. With the title on the line, the fight should be at the WW limit.

 

Well...for one...Algeri is a Jr Welterweight who is moving up...not down. Nelo was a Super Welterweight who had to come down...not move up. But the catch weight thing to me is a none issue...never has been since it's been threaded throughout boxing and its history. Floyd and Pac got heat for supposedly "draining" their opposition but that's all bull****. These men agreed to the fights, they know their bodies and they are professionals. Stop making excuses for why the outcome turns out the way it does based on an agreed upon weight.

Nelo wasn't winning that fight with or without the catch weight....Cotto wasn't winning his fight with Manny...with or without the catchweight. Sh*t is silly.
