Wilder has a major image problem, he is not crossing over to the mainstream, even with a ton of hype and free promotion from the networks. Television desperately want to market him. However, His fights fail to sell out and his ratings are pedestrian.

If he loses, it will really open up the division. Wilder will be forced to take meaningful fights and not milk the belt, and Ortiz at an advanced age will only be looking for big fights.

If Wilder wins here's what happens. He will get little credit outside of the media which will spoon feed the public hyperbole. He will continue to out price himself for a Joshua match and he will likely go back to facing weak opposition while waiting for the cash out.

Ortiz wins it's whole new ballgame. Ortiz will jump at any offer for Joshua and Wilder can lurk in background rebuild himself and take on the unified champ in a year.

what is bizarre to me is that barely anybody is giving ortiz a chance just because of his age. do people see that he has world champion skills and obviously knockout power? nope not a lot of people do. he'll end up knocking wilder out with the same shots he put on martz and thompson.

    ortiz is a proven cheat
although i think he will win /its bad for the sport and the sports image
ortiz should have been banned for 4 years

wilder is good with the media/good at self promotion and will make a usa v uk fight major effect

ortiz win will mean a rematch with wilder as i presume there will be a rematch clause.

I agree. Old Luis Ortiz would be very willing to unify with Joshua, but the cautiously-matched pretender Deontay Wilder will never do so.

So an Ortiz win would mean a unification of all the heavyweight titles later this year, which would be very good for boxing.

if ortiz is good enough and powerful enough to beat wilder he is good enough and powerfull enough to beat joshua

and having a cheat as undisputed world heavyweight champ of the world would be a severe black eye for boxing.

look at how justin gatlin is perceived around the world

Wilder will never get a big mainstream following because he is unlikable.
The guy screams and hollers like an over excited little boy looking for attention.
When interviewed he pulls idiotic faces and dresses like a street corner pimp.
He is a boy in a mans body with skinny chicken legs and the brain the size of a pea.

I hope old Ortiz beats this fool and we never have to see his clown act ever again.

That's part of the market strategy though, to make fans hate the guy so they tune in. I don't have anything personal against Wilder, I just don't believe he is very skilled or very good. The constant push to make him a star is what is wearing on me. His resume is softer than ice cream. Nobody calls it out and nobody calls out his flaws during a fight. Media wants to manufacture a star. Notice how the television analysts sound talking about Wilder compared to other real fighters like Mercer, Tyson and Holyfield. It's like the television people have blinders on or have no clue about the sport
