I understand his a great talent and might go on to do great things in the sport BUT he has done NOTHING of any significance at world level yet he has not even beaten ONE ex, current or future world champion, there are prospects out there that have beaten more world champions then him, for me he needs to prove himself before he gets hyped because I hate hype that has not been earned. Good luck GGG.
hes got network backing and notoriety in a division that was waiting for Martinez to retire/be beaten nobody else has really put their hand up in what is a weak division, and due to a series of circumstances (Martinez - injuries, geale - fought mundine, then lost to barker, sturm - doesn't fight top opponents no matter what) he hasn't had an opportunity to really turn that notoriety into something more solid hes fighting in the US and has network backing, so he wants the big fights I agree he hasn't proven anything yet. lets see how he handles geale, who has a better resume than golovkin, but also has shown his limitations against Darren barker
He hasn't beaten a future world champion? **** bro, what are the numbers on the next lottery drawing?
How do you understand this? Who has he faced and defeated to give the impression that he is great? To be a great talent, in my mind you have to have faced and defeated great opposition. At this point of his career he isn't even where Canelo was prior to meeting Mayweather. As you recall, many ESB members sadly showed that they DKSAB by predicting how "great" Canelo was and how he was too big, too strong, too fast and too skilled for Mayweather. Many here predicted Canelo would not only beat Mayweather, but also KO him in brutal fashion. As usual, and as I am now hearing about GGG's "greatness", I laughed.
At the beginning of the HBO telecast of GGG vs Proksa, Max Kellerman was giving his analysis of the MW division and said even then those who are insiders of boxing considered GGG to be the best MW today. So his talent was recognized by boxing insiders before going to HBO who later did the regular hyping like any fighters they see potential in the future. For being a champion with over a dozen string of KO's and how he is avoided in the MW division, I don't think he is over hyped at all.
I'm still a sceptic of him just coz the oppenents he has faced so far, the Geale fight will put a lot of doubters at ease or make them winge more, toughest fight of either GGG or Geale' career.
It is the nature of his wins, his power and his skills that he has shown. Tyson had huge hype around him before he has beaten anyone as well. If you have a boxer who is demolishing all opposition in front of him, that is what is going to happen, this is pretty much how it always is in boxing.
There's always bound to be some hype for guys with tons of amateur experience, crazy knockout ratio and undefeated pro record so far.
I'm a fan of GGG and the hype is clearly due to his fighting style. Fans in general will overhype any fighter they view exciting and explosive. Power all alone does wonders for a fighter when it comes to hype, promos and advertising.
GGG has the style and power that draw the media to him so hype should be expected as it's what the media do
GGG is a very good fighter, problem with Americans is because they always think the best fighters are here....when the Klits and Calzaghe arrived in the US there were no answers for them...
