yeah, but the reason why everyone hates this fight is because jones is washed up and calzaghe fighting him means nothing

you're living in a dream world if you think jones still has it. when was his last great performance. how many YEARS ago was that?

    Because its anti climatic

Jones is not a major factor anymore in the current scene of things...
Jones hasnt won a meaningful fight in more the FIVE YEARS
Jones is not p4p anymore (unlike JC and PAVLIK)
Jones proved and showed all he needed to show in his 3rd fight with tarver... against his nemises... the rubber match, when the fight was on the line and glory was there to be had... he rather be meek, dance around, and live to fight another day... even in his words.

Lets remember that pavlik just knocked out the guy that dethroned hopkins and beat him twice, 3 years before JC did, and didnt get knocked down in the process... (also beating taylor twice and capturing the undisputed middleweight crown puts him on a higher level then lacy ever was)

Beating the linear, undefeated, p4p'er prime middleweight champion who is also a name, and a rising coverboy for boxing (ring mag),

is never a 'nothing to gain everything to lose' scenario

the JONES fight is the REAL fight where that term should be applied.

If JC loses to Pavlik... it will be looked at as a passing of the guard, in fact i am willing to be JC would be the underdog... if he wins, it becomes the best win of his career alongside kessler. When you stand to gain one of the best wins of your career, how can you say that theres nothing to gain??? if in 4 months JC fought and defeated Pavlik... it would be one of the best wins of his career... which is all i need to say on the point of him having nothing to gain, in fact i believe Pavlik is 'officially' only 4 or 5 spots below JC p4p! now compare that to jones who isnt on ANYONES p4p lists... not even top 15!

and if he loses... he lost to the young undefeated middle champion whos sky is the limit, a p4p'er, and it was obvious (at least to me) that JC is/was slipping and on his way out anyways... and went out against the best

    against JONES

If he loses against jones now it will damage his legacy much much worse then if he were to lose to pavlik at this point... NOBODY takes jones seriously anymore in terms of the power players at whatever weight, and jones has not had a noteworthy win in FIVE YEARS

If he wins... well ill let JC's own words sum that up
'I have no interest in being the 3rd man to KO jones'

a JC win is *yawn* ok whats next... its expected to most.

im sorry but i completely disagree with you

Although i dont want to see the fight at all.... i have no real problem with JC taking this fight... took him a long time to earn this money and so i say go for it, hes on his way out anyways...
but dont try twisting and turning it to make it appear as a legit move...

anyone and everyone should be able to see that Pavlik is a better fight legacy wise... glory wise.... and battle worthy wise.

Roy is simply a legend and $$$

    and thats all there is

JC has fought Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins.... if he wants to fight Roy Jones i say let him... just dont get it twisted.

The problem is that Roy's past his best and the style that would have seen him destroy Calzaghe a few years back is no longer conducive as it relies on the crucial assets lost with age....speed, hand/eye co-ordination and reflexes.

Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins were the fights Calzaghe should have taken years ago but he was a protected species.

    He needs to fight Tarver.

I MUST ADD...a fight against Pavlik would suit Calzaghe. He has often avoided guys with good hand speed because that'll be his undoing. Fighters that rely on power find Calzaghe has the tools to neutralise them.

Close the thread, Kirk landed the big right hand with this post, he summed up what 90% of us posters are thinking and know deep down. Most here want to see Jones pull off the upset and go back to the way he was before he was laid out by Tarver in 04, but it's doubtful thats going to happen. I'm not going to lie, after Calzaghe's lack luster performance against a very old Hopkins, Jones' chances of winning have gone up IMO, from a 10% chance to a 25% about a 25% chance of winning, I would love to see the overrated Calzaghe knocked out as much as anyone, I just cant see it happening Dunks.

and a 43 year OLD B Hop did?

why do u say Jones is washed up and doesnt have it?...he just went 36 SOLID Rounds with good competition....fine tunning his body back into the way it was before he went up to HW....Roy Jones is the most gifted fighter ever maybe and u mean to tell me he has lost all knowledge of how to box?...:patsch He has been boxing since he was 3 years old...I atrribute his losses to the weight loss and lack of focus.....but to call him WASHED UP is a little extreme. he has never been seriously beat up in any proffesional prize fights. KO'ed? yes but KO's are aprt of the sport...to call him washed up and shot is insane

Joe Calzaghe's biggest three fights have been...

    1. Kessler

    2. A 43yr old Hopkins

    3. Lacy

How is this guy ranked an ATG by some? He has been a protected species all his career and because he is undefeated it automatically ranks him up there with the greats.....BS !!!

Even if he beats RJJ he'll never be rated anywhere near him. Let him go win a heavyweight title.

What he said is fact. What you are saying is jibberish and of course can't be answered until AFTER the fight.
