because guys like gomez who fights for a title at 154 , is a career 147 pound guy who didnt earn ****, thus the beating he took to show why guys like him shouldnt fight for titles not in their weight division :deal

Canelo is 21. Mayweather won FOTY when he was 21 and was beating the best guys in his division. Canelo was handed a belt after beating a C level, blown up WW. He's continued his tendency of fighting blown up WWs, and even blown up LWs. He's a belt holder, and getting superstar treatment. His comp has been underwhelming as of lately, all things considered.

I have always said that I understand when promoters put there young boxers in with with decent competition just so they can build up their experience.

But the minute that fighter wins a world title all the soft fights get thrown out the window. He's a champion now. So he should be facing top contenders.

Other than Chicanito(who was near retirement), do you really think the likes of Rios, Gerena, Manfredy and Junkoo are any better opposition than Canelo's last 4-5 opponents?

Keep in mind that most of these guys were smaller than FLoyd and had probably reached their max at 130.

Because their is a lot of talent in the division (Konecy, Lara, Cotto, Angulo, Molina, Kirkland, Trout, Wolak, Rodriguez, Dzinziruk) and instead of fighting them he fights alfonzo ****ing gomez!

Manfredy was top 5 at 130 when Mayweather fought him. The rest of those guys were top 10 except I think Juuko, and he was a late replacement. Canelo is not even fighting JMWs let alone top 10 JMWs. Again, Mayweather was FOTY at 21 and a top 10 p4p fighter. No one would consider Canelo for those honors. Be real, how could you be happy with Canelo beating B and C level WWs, JWWs, and LWs.

i actually like Ryan Rhodes seen a lot of his fights but him and M Hatton had no business or chance against Canelo. especially M Hatton wasnt even a ****ing lmw he was a welter.

Also Gomez what the **** has he ever done to deserve this.

I agree he's facing better opposition than given credit for, but it's not better than Floyd's. Floyd beat Genaro Hernandez at 21 and 2 years of being a pro and beat Manfredy 2 months later

Rhodes was probably 12 months past his best, had he got the fight straight after doing Moore it'd have been a much closer fight IMO.

I think there is a tendency now for all promoters to cherrypick. I think it is as much a result of the evolution of the sport as it is the promoters' fault. Look how much one loss can derail a fighter now. Look how that fighter gets treated in the media and even here at this forum...As far as Canelo himself, I think Cintron is a positive step. It would be interesting to see if Canelo can make him mentally quit or if Cintron finds some toughness this late in the game. Others fighters have found it very late....I'm ready to see Alvarez get in there with a no-frills brawler like Angulo. Not because Angulo is world class. Because I want to see how Canelo handles someone with an indomitable will who will come after him the entire fight
