With the steroids issue, as you stated, there's no proof that Roy was juicing throughout his career. However, the facts are these, the first time he was tested, he was caught with an anabolic steroid in his system, and he had over 6 times the acceptable level of testosterone in his system. He refused a follow up test which could have cleared his name. Once again, those are the facts.

Now my next point is based on logic, what did he see in Richard Hall as a fighter that made him want to use anabolic steroids to gain an unfair advantage!? It's more likely that he was cheating and using anabolic steroids throughout his career to gain that advantage, until he got caught. As you said, there's no proof, there's no proof that this was the first and only time he cheated and used anabolic steroids. Whatever it is, it casts a huge cloud over his achievements to that point. After he was caught, the level of opposition he fought was terrible, especially for an elite fighter.

Why not give Hopkins 50/50? Hopkins at that point had an enormous following of his own, was considered by many the best fighter on the planet, and brought a lot to the table. Look at the quality of opposition that Roy fought instead, it was a disgrace to the sport, and he cheated his fans and boxing fans out of some of the biggest fights of the 90's and early 2000's.

It is just a constant list of excuses, there seems to be no blame on Roy for these fights not being made. So Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Erik Lucas, Rick Frazier and Richard Hall were the absolute best fights that Roy could have made within his power... :patsch

Yes the win over Ruiz is overrated, Ruiz was significantly bigger, that's it. Ruiz had no other conceivable advantage except for weight Haye beat Valuev, who outweighed him by 100 pounds, and was over 12 inches taller. The win against Ruiz was good, only due to the size difference, that's it, not because of Ruiz as a fighter. It was a boring fight, and Roy potshotted him and ran for 12 rounds, Ruiz being the limited fighter he is, couldn't bring anything else to the fight, other than his size! Did you see Martinez destroy Kelly Pavlik? There was a massive size difference between them. Haye-Valuev? Mayweather dominating and backing up a legit WW in Ortiz.

Once again, with the Lewis debate, more big fights that were there for Roy, that didn't get made, more excuses. Why didn't he fight his mandatory Vitali Klitschko? I don't for one minute believe that Roy wanted to fight Lennox Lewis. Lewis would have decapitated him, did you see what Glen Johnson did to him!? Roy's weak chin, with Lennox's power, reach and skill :patsch

Do you not understand the point that at 193, Roy wasn't draining water weight or anything!? He went from a walking around weight of about 186, to 193. That's about 7-9 pounds of muscle tops, and he had 8 months, and then more time before the Tarver rematch.

After the Richard Hall fight, we can establish that from there on Roy was a clean fighter. The competition he fought directly afterwards was disgracefully poor. When he stepped it up and fought Tarver, at this point he was past his physical prime, but was far from a shot fighter. Watch the fights with Tarver, he still looked sharp, had good speed in his feet and his hand speed was there.
The fact is, anabolic steroids will give any fighter advantages in speed, power and stamina. Roy got exposed for having such poor fundamentals, and one of the worst glass jaws in recent history. Mayweather isn't prime today, he's 35 as well, doesn't have the legs he used to, yet he's still dominating, because Floyd Mayweather is a truly great fighter. See the shots that he took of Mosley? He still dominated him.

Against Glen Johnson, it was a combination of things, he didn't have the advantages that steroids give you, his athleticism had declined, but not as much as is made out, Glen fought an excellent fight, pressured him, didn't give him space to breathe, and Roy was so gun shy. In spurts, he would fight, and his hand speed and combinations were there, but he was too afraid to commit to it. Face it, RJJ is overrated.

Read these articles from 2005 and 2001, what is being pointed out isn't new, people have called Jones out for years on the way he managed his career, and the illusions he created.

Facts speak for themselves? Provide me with these facts. Joe wanted the payday, and the opportunities that it would bring to fight Roy. Roy wanted easy fights for easy money, it's a no brainer, why take on a tough challenge like Joe Calzaghe.

Have people ever claimed Calzaghe to be the GOAT? Or one of the greatest ever and all the other ridiculous claims that Roy Jones fanboys regularly make? Joe proved himself, could fight through adversity, and never failed a drugs test.

Fact, Joe never had the opposition available to him that Roy had in the 90's. Joe never had the pull and power in the sport that Roy Jones had. It was far more difficult for Joe Calzaghe to make a big fight, than it was for Roy Jones, who could have made any of these fights with the fan-base, and attention from major networks that Roy did.

When Joe actually gained fame and status abroad by destroying Lacy, he made the two biggest fights available to him in Kessler and Hopkins. At this point, he was past his prime and at the tail end of his career. He then took on RJJ because it represented the biggest payday, and Joe was on the verge of retirement. Don't forget, many picked Roy to beat Joe as well.

the funniest thing in this entire thread is jones jnr fanboys claiming that jones lost 30lbs of muscle to fight tarver :nut:nut:nut:lol::rofl

the fact of the matter is that roy jones lost 7lbs over an 8 month period :patsch

Ok, you are a Calzaghe "fan boy" as they say and you think he has this sterling resume and took all these risks during his career so there is little point debating with you. You keep believing that, I'll keep believing the exact opposite.....

Is that the best you can come up with? Why not try and disprove me. I don't exaggerate how good Calzaghe was, I don't constantly come up with what if's, would of's and could of', which seem the only way to justify Roy Jones' career. I don't have to make ridiculous claims, as I don't make Joe Calzaghe out to be something that he wasn't, unlike Roy Jones fanboys.

    Ploys,

When did Toney seriously persue a rematch with Roy? He told a few journalists he wanted a rematch, because he'd been embarrassed and his pride had been hurt. What did he do to get one? He was weight drained for nearly every fight, like Ricky Hatton was. That was his own fault.

Why would Roy bend over backwards for a Hopkins rematch. Put yourself in Roy's shoes. It's already been discussed. What was on it for Roy? He has to lose weight, there's no title, he's already beaten him etc. Roy hated him. Why would Roy bend over backwards? Roy couldn't care less if the fight came off or not. There was nothing to gain. He'd already beaten him. If Hopkins was so desperate to avenge the loss, he could have taken the 40% If he'd have taken it, the fight would have been made.

It's ok you saying that they're all excuses, but you've got facts to back them up. If he'd fought Benn, Eubanks etc etc instead, you'd be on here saying, why didn't Roy fight Toney? You can't fight everyone. James Toney in 1994 at 26 years old, was better than anyone on that list. Why don't you give him some credit for the guys he did fight. They wern't all binmen. Thomas Tate goes 12 rounds with Julian Jackson, then Roy ices Tate in two rounds with a leaping uppercut. Where's the credit?

Calzaghe couldn't get big fights, there was no money in it. he wasn't a big name?

Why wasn't he a big name Ploys?

Because he was happy fighting in the U.K. If you're not prepared to showcase your talents to a world wide audience, then you're never going to be a big name.If he'd have been willing to go to the U.S. earlier, he would have been a big name. He didn't want to go! You can't have it both ways! If you don't leave Wales, you can't say you were avoided. America is the home of boxing. Always has been, always will. Nobody outside of the U.K. knew who Joe was? Who's fault is that?

Joe was a great fighter, but it was embarrassing to see him Fight Manfredo from the Contender, to gain U.S. exposure. I think it's amzing that you question Roy's resume, when Joe's resume is shocking! He unified a weak 168 division whilst killing himself to make weight, while he could have fought big name fights at 175.

He beat a double Champion in Kessler? What had Kessler ever done? Wins over Mundine, Siaca, Craig Cummins!? Who had Lacy beaten? Joe's biggest wins are Lacy and Kessler.
He tried to crack America? Ha! What when Roy was two months from his 40th Birthday?

Joe's scared of flying and in 2006 he says "Roy's shot, a fight a this stage would be pointless." Two years later, (4 years after Roy's been ko'd by Tarver and Johnson) he suddenly wants to crack America and fight Hopkins and Roy. It's embarrassing mate! Why didn't he try and crack America ten years earlier in 1998?

Go upto heavy and fight the weakest Champion? What are you on about?

I've already didcussed this with you. Just read my last few posts. He didn't intend to just fight the weakest Champion at Heavy. He wanted Holy. Holy then lost to Ruiz. Roy then fought Ruiz. If Holy had've beaten Ruiz, Roy and Holy would have fought. Read my posts.

Afterwards, he tried to fight Tyson and Lennox. Go and read the links if you don't believe me. The fights didn't come off for reasons (that i've discussed) and Roy went back down for Tarver.

You're implying that Roy handpicked Ruiz, and then avoided the other guys at the weight. This did not happen. Before you reply, go and read the rest of this thread.

Is what the best I can come up with? So let me get this straight. You want me to convince you somehow that Calslappy's resume isn't a hell of a lot better than Roy's? For what? Like I said, if you think Calslappy has a sterling resume that's fine. I simply laugh and disagree. I don't understand why you are so butt hurt because I don't want to argue my OPINION with you. As if anything I say is going to make you think any differently.

"A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still"

    Think about that.......
