The only place you have EVER heard this supposed "common knowledge" about Glass Jaw Jones losing 20 lbs was from him and his camp. Just like all of your supposed "Facts", that comes from the most biased source you could possibly find. I have given you the numbers. Those numbers are ironclad Fact. They tell us what Roid weighed and when, so your "it's common knowledge it was 20 lbs! :|:|:|" bull****, is just that. Get lost, nuthugger or start the thread. You will be Dominated with Facts yet again.
He is a cheater with all his roids - but I started to like him when he was a gentleman in defeat to Calzaghe.
Metal, You haven't dominated me with ****! He went from 193 to 174! Like I say just google it or watch the YouTube docs.
Boxing, the only sport where it does not punish steriod/HGH cheats. He should have his accomplishments wiped clean along with others such as Mosley(who STILL is gifted a win in the 2nd fight over DLH yet he was on roids), Toney, Pacquiao, and any other drug cheat. Don't feel sorry for him for his struggles but I do like that Mosley is willing to take extra testing but him and any other guys testing positive for roids should not get any full credit and deserve an asterik by their name and no mention in the HOF no matter whatever the cheat accomplished.
I'm picking the bums out, because it's so easy to do! As I said before, it looks like a scam! Between Toney and Ruiz, I'd say Jones barely had a competitive fight. There were plenty of fights the fans wanted to see, and none of them got made! I can understand 1 or 2, but 4 or 5 and it's clear what was going on. Reggie Johnson had 5 losses prior to fighting Jones, who handed him his 6th. Malinga had already been beaten 8 times, and by Benn and Eubank back to back. It's notable because Jones was the first to stop him. Tate is notable, he did take Julian Jackson the distance, and Jones stopped him. However, neither Tate nor Malinga were very good fighters, they don't do much for Roy's legacy. As I said, Johnson is a good win, Malinga and Tate are notable because of the way Roy beat them. I can't ignore the steroids issue, it hangs over Roy's achievements and brings everything he accomplished up to the Richard Hall fight into question. Back to the comparisons drawn between Jones, Leonard and Hearns. You say Roy was up there talent and skills wise, maybe, maybe not. The difference was, Roy wasn't willing to prove it against the best fighters of his generation. Tommy and Ray were, and numerous occasions. The only time Roy took a comparable fight, is against James Toney, and that win is overrated beyond belief. Toney isn't a great like the aforementioned fighters, and he was weight drained beyond belief, furthermore Toney never accomplished anything at 168. His lack of discipline meant he ballooned through weights, way before he should have. He lost again in his prime to Montell Griffin and the mighty Drake Thadzi! Roy's best win is the same as Drake Thadzi. Of course, this is all in hindsight, but it puts it into perspective. It's still a very good win, take nothing away. Another valid point, when comparing Roy to these greats, is that they gave us some of the best fights of all time. When Roy fought Hopkins, Toney and Ruiz, all three fights were awful to watch!
Toney had many questionable losses but that's his fault for being a lazy **** and coasting in fights. Thought his fight with Roy was decent but Ruiz and Hopkins against Roy were very unpleasing fights. And we really don't know how long Roy has been doing roids so to call him great or even an "ATG" is laughable to me. Even if he didn't do roids his resume is poor and to have his name in the same group as Spinks, Ezzard, or Moore is ridiculous. He did nothing to prove he was in their class, nothing. I wouldn't even have him over Saad. Overall he was extremely talented but him and DM really should've worked something out and he did want no part of Lewis with that chin of his. Not proven enough and with being "given" extraordianary ability he failed to establish the proper technique which cost him past his prime.
think its a bit harsh for anyone to be too critical about jones not fighting lewis. jones started as a middleweight and yeah he may have used steroids to climb up the weights but it would be suicide for jones to fight lewis, lewis had too many advantages and is one of the greatest heavies of all time. if lewis had landed that uppercut he landed on vitali, then jones would have been rendered unconscious for a month.
I completely agree, but I don't think Jones fans should try to make out that Lewis avoided Roy. I doubt Lennox would have hesitated getting into the ring with a man that much smaller than him. I don't hold this against him, nor do I hold Vitali Klitschko against him, both men are far too big and too skilled.
You make a good point but I'm not too critical as I brought up that chin as a great reason not to face Lewis. Just saying he fought the worst possible opponent in Ruiz. Even Tua would've been better albeit still a suicidal match. Rather him not make the jump to HW is all. Hopping divisions for belts is overrated especially when you're facing the worst possible belt holders. Fun fact, Sam Langford started as a LW and went to HW though that was a time of 8 weight classes.
