Haye beat Valuev easily just the fight sucked and very little landed. Haye got the most out of what I guess you can consider exchanges. Haye did little but Valuev was pawing pretty much all night. Also, Roy looked horrible against Johnson with his legs looking like wet noodles all fight long. Right before the fight he looked good in 1 rd against Tarver in the third but was gunshy from their last encounter. Pretty much quit in Tarver 3 but definitely looked faded post Ruiz and shot after Tarver. Unfair to say he was shot against Tarver in the second as he wasn't, that was just Tarver having the niht of his career with a confidence crushing ko to Roy. And glass jaw lol? He got ko'd with all times coming when he was faded and 3 coming while he was done. Only time during his prime he got dropped he got right back up.
Why should anyone take Glass Jaw Roy's word for anything? He talked about plenty of big fights throughout his career and he made none of them happen. This is a classic case of the parable of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. If I hear someone say the same thing over and over and never deliver on it, I am less and less apt to believe them each time it happens. Jones never intended on fighting those fighters. He was too scared to face punchers in the lower weight classes, why in hell would Reluctant Roy finally grow balls in the division with the biggest punchers of them all? And the answer is, he wouldn't. It was all big talk coming from the king of big talkers. Everyone picking Ruiz to win was an idiot who overrated the guy off of beating a completely shot-to-**** Holyfield. Ruiz was and is garbage. I will concede that as a HW he has more power than Johnson but he is no puncher, he has no Skill, and he doesn't even really try to land big punches. He was tailor-made for Jones and everyone should have seen it. Jones would not have taken the fight otherwise. You can keep believing Roy's garbage excuses about the weight or you can learn how weight cutting works and look at the numbers, it is that simple. And lots of people thought Tarver won, I just happen to be one of them. Jones did nothing but potshot in that fight and only in the rounds Tarver took off. Tarver did not take off over six rounds. Vitali was Jones' Mandatory. This was the first time that Glass Jawed Joke did not fight his Mandatory and it was because this Mandatory could fight. Other times when he dodged big fights the excuse was, "But Larry, I HAVE to fight my Mandatory or they'll strip me of my (trinket) belt!". Hmmm, I wonder why he didn't want to fight this one? And Roy wanting megafights is a joke. He never wanted the big fights at any other time in his career and he certainly never turned down an easy payday. He didn't take Vitali because he knew he would get Chinned. End of. So even though Valuev beat Ruiz, he is a worse fighter?atsch Haye is not much bigger than Jones. If the NSAC's scales were in fact incorrect for Jones/Ruiz, then Haye is only about 10 lbs bigger than Jones was. Haye has nearly as bad a Glass Jaw. At least he had the cojones to fight the best HW out there, even if he did not do much fighting. Given Ruiz's Feather Fistedness AND his complete lack of fighting ability, I would say that Johnson is the far more dangerous opponent. Ruiz is horrible, he is more of an octupus than a Boxer. His Chin is one of the worst in Boxing. It is awful. His Chin is exactly why we are having this discussion because had he actually not had one of the worst Glass Jaws in Boxing, he would not have been nearly so reluctant to fight guys who could crack.
Thanks for the reply. That's absolutely fantastic analysis of what you think would have happened, Toney especially. I think the build up would have been huge. I think Toney beng Toney would have bad mouthed him at every opportunity. I think they'd have been trouble at the press conference and the weigh in, and this would have played into Toney's hands. I think James would have psyched him out. I think the night of the the fight, Joe would have been angry, and he'd have had a tear up in the middle of the ring. I think Macho bravado would have got Joe into trouble. I could see Joe winning the first three rounds, and Toney constantly talking **** to him and goading him into a tear up. I think that eventually Toney would get his wish, and Calzaghe would end up getting dropped. I can't see a Toney win on points. I can envisage a Calzaghe points win if he had a clear head, but I think it would probably have been a late TKO for Toney. Great post! regards, Loudon.
He got dropped by a grazing shot from Feather Fisted Fraud Lou Del Valle. He didn't fight guys who could punch and we all know why. Because his Chin has the consistency of dried horse ****. Here is a quote from '88 about Roy's Glass Jaw. "Pedro, you know Roy has a glass jaw, dont you? I answered in the negative and Ray, who at the time was trying to run a boxing promotional company that went by the wayside, went on. Yeah, we had somebody in the gym with Roy and he got iced with the big gloves and a headgear on. Thats why you dont see me chasing him as hard as the others. I dont think he can take it if he gets hit on the chin." "Ray", is Ray Leonard.
It's boxing, **** happens. Still got up and won the fight. Also doesn't eliminate that he was faded everytime he got stopped. You guys obsessing over chins are ignoring the other details about a fight, like winning one, which he did against Lou Valle. Only truly lost faded.
He should have gotten up and beaten Del Valle, the guy was garbage. He shouldn't have been dropped by him to begin with, however. Do you think he'd have gotten up if a real puncher like Benn, Eubank, McClellan, or Michalczewski would have hit him on the button? I doubt it, but we will never know because Reluctant Roy did not want to find out about that himself. You can talk about how great he looked in his Prime, but he did not fight anybody but B-Hop and Toney in that time and he was terrified to engage either one of them, even a completely weight drained Toney. Those fights were complete stinkers.
This was on the web a while ago. Roy was asked about this in an interview only recently. He just laughed and said "I don't know where that's come from. Nobody could land clean on me when I was coming up." You're obviously going to say he was lying though!
IF is the biggest word in the dictionary. If Benn or Gerald would have caught him, no he wouldn't gotten up. But, would they have caught him? Almost any 168-175 fighter COULD have knocked Roy out.
Metal, this is my last post for today. What do you mean why should we take Roy's word for it? Read the ****ing links! Lennox wanted the fight. It wasn't Roy's opinion. Lewis is quoted. He was up for the fight. That is a fact! After Vitali, Roy approached him. That's a fact! Lewis said he wasn't going to fight again. Did he fight again?? No he didn't! Roy had not made it up! You just refuse to believe it! Again, show some respect for the fighters. No heavyweight can be tailor made for a former 160 guy. Don't be an idiot! When Roy couldn't get Tyson or Lewis, he wasn't bothered about anyone else. He was asked about Byrd, and he said he wasn't interested, he wanted a mega fight with Tyson or Lewis. When the fights couldn't get made, he had no intention of staying there, especially when Tarver was relentless. Vitali was out for a while anyway. Yeah Roy wanting mega fights is a joke. That's why he paid Murad uhammad a **** load of money for him to try and negotiate a Lewis and Tyson fight. He made him $17 Mill for Ruiz. The best heavyweight out there is Vitali. Yes Haye fought the seconsd best fighter at heavyweight, but guess what? he's a heavyweight! Haha! Glen Johnson was more of a dangerous fight than John Ruiz? at 16 and a half stone, coming off of a win and a knockdown of Holy? Ha! Please! Get the **** out of here! Do you think Roy had a bad chin, only you've never mentioned it before? Ha! He avoided all of the big punchers. He ran from Gerald, he ran from Jackson, He ran from Benn, and then said to Murad "Get me a Tyson fight!" No wait a minute! He was lying! Right? Hillarious! Anyway, have a good weekend mate, seriously!
cant quite believe there are still people here who would expect a light middleweight to unify the HW crown. As if one belt from a division 4 or 5 weights above you isnt enough. If Roy gave them a moon on a stick they'd still claim he was shortchanging them.
who care what he "said" to Murad ? Did he fight the big punchers? answer is no He didnt fight any of them !
Do you think he's going to admit to the truth and say, "oh yeah, I didn't even have a Chin back then, I got starched wearing headgear!"? Really, why would you take his word on any of this **** when it has been proven that he has a laundry list of excuses that are all riddled with more holes than his Swiss Cheese Chin? The guy has no reason to lie and misquote Leonard. None. Jones does have a reason to lie and claim that he didn't get flatlined sparring. Neither one of them would have feared him and both would have put pressure on him like he rarely saw. I am confident in saying that McClellan most definitely would have caught up to him and starched him and if Benn's sometimes shaky Chin held up, he would have done the same. Roy said he wanted the fights. That is it. I can assure you that he didn't all of a sudden sprout testicles and want big fights against big punchers when he went to HW and that is abundantly clear. You see, Loudon, there are these things called results. You can have all the talk you want, all the big plans, but the results are what count and they don't exist here. Jones' plans to fight the best are much like his Chin, an absolute myth. I am sorry, but I am not going to buy anything coming from Jones because he never backed up any of the big talk. He was a fraud if ever there was one. As for HWs not being tailor-made for any smaller fighter, I heartily disagree. Ruiz has lost to blown-up MWs Jones and Toney AND blown-up CW Haye. He is awful. One of the worst beltholders in the history of the HW division and three smaller fighters have owned him. He sucks and that is all there is to it. Beating him means nothing. So, you can keep talking about what Jones said and what that means for his career and I will continue telling you what he actually did, which pales in comparison to the constant "coulda, woulda, shoulda" bull**** from he and his fans. He is a joke. A Glass Jawed Joke.
Any all-time great like RJJ who hits #1 P4P and wins multiple titles in multiple divisions(Jones Jr. would have gone further if heavyweight wasn't the cap) with special attributes not all possess would get a lot of hate, specifically from losers. That's just a given regarding any successful athlete or star in any given profession.
He went all the way to heavyweight and exchanged punches with a legitimate heavyweight yet he ducked "big punchers"?, what big punchers out there did he duck exactly? You're a ******.
