WHY EUROPEANS THINK AMERICAN FIGHTER`S SUCK.


Well, not all of us...but many.

Often times, people over here in europe might read press/hype clippings about some guy who many consider the real deal across the pond. But the big problem is, that we have never seen them on Television. Unless you have satelite TV, we can't watch any fights from america, unless they are shown on the disney channel or see some YouTube footage.

Meanwhile the american fighters are staying active, and fighting guys we have never heard of. Eventually they'll start fighting NAME european fighters who may not be in their prime, but they are still washed up fighters like krasniqi

Finally, when it comes to SHOWCASING these guys on european. television, the americans are probably nervous (wanting to impress), and often are matched against tough guys whose style doesn't mesh real good with their own (the networks want you to fight a certain level of gatekeepers, etc.). Then at the end of the day, even though the american is still very good...when he doesn't give us a calzaghev kessler type of showing....

...HE SUCKS....

Example: Max Kellerman several years ago on ESPN2; He said that he would never recognize the WBO as long as a Klitschko had the title. Now that is real bias.

 

The fact of the matter is that many European fighters are good, but overhyped and unable to back it up with big wins. They are protected, because they fight in Europe, and simply put the very best fighters are generally fighting out of the USA.

Because everyone can obviously only see the situation from one perspective no matter how cosmopolitan we try to be, it means that we are all inevitably going to be a bit biased whether we realise it or not - there is no such thing as true impartiality in humans.

 

American fans have been brainwashed by the US Boxing media.

 

In all fairness, that probably happens everwhere. I know that here in the UK our media don't give a fair impression of the boxing world - the problem with that is that the average person sports fan then gets misinformed. It will probably happen everywhere, Poland, Ukraine, Mexico, Germany, Australia, USA etc..

 

The first time Americans often get to see a Euro is when they get their shot at a Hagler, Ali, PBF, BHop, RJJ or Tyson or whatever. They see one fight where the Euro get stuffed by the best in the world and have it fixed in their mind that the guy was just a hype job forgetting that there is no shame in losing to the best.

If all you ever saw of Tyson was him being pummelled by Lewis where would you rate him? What if you had only seen Hagler fight SRL? What if you had only seen Bhop fight RJJ? People are quick to make up their minds and slow to change em. Would you guess Hatton is a dominant light welterweight champ based on his outting vs PBF? I know I wouldn't.

Fact is sometimes the Euro fighter is the best fighter in the world - like Lewis, Wlad, Haye or Joe C - and many more are world class like Benn, Eubank, Hatton, Kessler, Witter etc, but even then many Americans dont get to see them often until well into their careers if at all. And just to compound it, just as America wakes up to them they are often on the slide and then lose so of course they just get labled as hype jobs!

There is little excuse for this in the age of youtube and the like.

Eh, it's their promoters dumb choices. Peter has been promoted as an American, Maskaev has been promoted as a European. In the meantime, I haven't seen too many people talk about Yuri Foreman or Dmitry Salita in terms of being Euros, because they've been promoted as NYC Jews. On the other hand, most people seem to think of Juan Diaz as Mexican, even though he was born and raised in the US, because that's how he was promoted. As long as the promoters continue to pull out the same old tired plotlines, we'll continue to see that, which is somewhat of a shame, because it's true that Maskaev is more "American" than Peter is.

americans often think that euro fighters are more protected and pampered than american fighters.

in america, most fighters, if they want to fight on tv, they have to face real tough comp.

in several euro countries, fighters get to fight on tv, make millions of bucks by fighting absolute crap.
and they get adored by their countries for that.

american fighters have it harder.

take pavlik for example: to get a title shot, he had to beat a monster like miranda. then he has to fight someone like taylor for the belt. and then he has a rematch with taylor.

look at strums last three fights: he outpoints someone called alcoba. then he draws with a fringe contender in randy griffin.
and now he fights some aussie fighter nobody knows.

were pavlik to do what sturm is doing, he would get crucified.

but sturm gets nothing but cheers in germany.

so that is what makes his hard to take them seriously.
