PBF, BHOP, Pavlik, Dawson, Bradley, Wright, We still are number one... just not at heavyweight. And as far as ATGs... we have the world beat.
PBF is retired. BHOP and Wright will probably retire soon too. The US still probably has more top boxers than any other country, but not more than the rest of the world. As far as ATGs the US probably has more than the rest of the world indeed.
there was an intersting thread the other week listing each countries top three fighters. i'd put calzaghe, haye and hatton in with americas top three anyday. hopkins ,dawson and pavlik would probably be theirs , one HOF'er who is getting on , one relatively untested and one who has just been exposed as very one dimensional indeed .
britian is very succesful considering it is the size of a flake compared to america so considering the amount of top fighters and former world champs in ratio i would say britian is better
Because none had to fight eastern europeans. :yep (they used to be banned from participating remember ? ) Same goes with the Cubans btw...(all banned)
Technically...you don't. "the world" means what it means... Only problem is that if you actually pay attention to the "all time great" professional records... You'll notice that most of them fought 90 if not 95% of "american" competiton. Look it up for yourself...very little international competition...(and when it's the case , it is never or rarely against eastern euro competition ) Foreman http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=000090&cat=boxer Ali http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000180 Tyson http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000474 Holyfield http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000499 (do i even bother with the rest ?)... The only legit exception to that rule , is Mr Lennox Lewis. Speaking of which...most of the "ALTG"...were lucky that there weren't such a thing as a lennox lewis during their era...(same goes with the white ones...) There's a difference between feeding on white HW "american" cans...or "white hopes" as americans love to put it...and eastern euro ones..
Well said! With champions like Calzaghe, Hatton and David Haye out there currently, on ratio the UK is probably on top due to its size (or lack of).
Americans are/were the best, they had most of the biggest fighters in history...look at a top 10 ATG list to see...nowadays there aren't as many good american fighters as europeans or about the same
