Why are boxers and promoters so vocal about finances

It's called "prize fighting" for a reason.

 

Maybe because boxers get a say in who their opponents will be whereas that's not the case in most other sports.

 

Yeah... back in the day we didn't give a fugg what fighters made. But I'm pretty sure SRL made a shizload fighting Lalonde.

You don't see this much in other sports? You hear that **** all the time from all of them. People are always talking about how much Derek Jeter, A-Rod, or Kobe Bryat are making. Half of what you hear on sports talk shows is how different teams are swapping players or making deals to stay under the salary cap or how the Yankee's are buying another world series.

Promoters are only concerned about making money, they cheat the fans and make fun of them because they think they are very stupid..............PPV will soon cost $100, watch and see. $70 to watch a chicken, El Pollo Alvarez fight and unknown?! NO WAY!

 

Personally, I hate soccer but even I've heard that David Beckham is rich. Don't follow golf, but know that Tiger Woods is a billionaire. They aren't athletes. They are celebrities. And besides being a sport, boxing is also a business. You hear movie critics talk about the business side of the industry almost as much as the art. How much movies cost, or who got $20 million to star in what.

If you didn't have some understanding of the financial side of the game, you would have no idea why matches are made or not made. The sport would make absolutely no sense. It's more than gangster rappers boasting about all the cars and gold watches they bought. Money is politics.
