    and MMA fighters are?

this isnt an anti MMA thread, but a legite question. Most of the deaths/tragedys in boxing come from sustained punishment (levander johnson/gerald mcclean) tha leads to blood clots etc. if you have smaller gloves, knockouts/stoppages would be more persistent and the boxers may have longer carears.

It would also provide more entertainment :good

...because boxers are repeadtedly hit to the head.

The gloves should get no bigger now. 8oz up to 154 and 10 oz up to heavyweight is more than enough.

All the glove companies have already changed their design to make them even less dangerous.

Too many gloves out there. I think one should be used across the board.

Gloves that are too small would cause guys to be more cautious and threw fewer puncher.

Just because gloves are made smaller doesn't mean boxers suddenly get ko'd. Boxers would still go 12 rounds taking those shots.

Yeah, you'd see feinting making a comeback in a huge way. Styles would start looking like they did a century ago.

Probably. Compared to now, that style, whilst extremely technical, is very boring. Obviously you get a lot of bad fights now and there were plenty of fantastic fights involving Johnson et al, but overall, gloves becoming larger has made the sport easier to watch.

The sport back then was defence.

less punches would happen and like was said, the style would adapt. People would throw less for fear of hurting their hands too frequently.

i disagree, respectivley. Guys like Sweet Pea, Mayweather etc would have more power, given them a bigger fanbase which they deserve.

it would be tough on the hands tho

Because the average boxer throws about three times as many punches per round and connects about four times as many punches than the average MMA fighter

Those gloves are also the only thing protecting a guy like Mayweather's hands. He'd probably have had a career ending damage done to his hands if he wore tiny gloves.

Yes, a lot of fights from yesteryear sucked ass compared to some of the fights in the last 30 years.

There would be at least some increase in KO percentage.

As for the original question, I would imagine its simply due to tradition and misunderstanding of how serious brain injury is caused, also, MMA needs the smaller gloves in order to be able to grapple effectively. I certainly think it would be interesting at the very least, safer on the brain as well.
