Why are expectations for Pacquiao so high compared to Mayweather?

I rewatched the Mayweather vs Canelo fight and Mayweather does just enough to win the round and backpedals the rest of the time (ex. round 7). No one seems to care how Mayweather wins after the fight as long as he seals a victory.

In comparison to the upcoming Pacquiao vs Rios fight, people have been saying that Pacquiao needs to KO/TKO Rios to be seen normal again. If he wins by even UD/MD, he has fallen off a bit. People have been saying that about his past fights too. When he won by the scorecards, he has lost the touch and he is fading. Why are people expecting him to knock everyone out like he's some bulldozer? Manny is expected to go out in full force and knock out Rios to "prove" to people. Why can't people accept a more refined boxing version of Pacquiao who wins by the scorecards?

I'm also talking about Mayweather's fight outcome/expectations versus Guerrero, Ortiz, etc. All similar enough level as Rios.

I said after the guerrero fight that if pacquaio had fought guerrero and won in a similair fashion to floyd it just wouldnt be good enough in peoples eyes.

#1 Rios is not Alvarez, and won't outweigh pac by 15lbs.
#2 Rios is a brawler and the way he fights is so perfect for Manny a ko seems like the likely conclusion.
#3 Manny does not have to get a KO to look good just needs to dominate a fighter who is no way on his level.
Tell the truth if Rios were to beat Manny everyone would say Manny is washed up and needs to retire.

    1. Pac just got KO'd and hasn't looked very good in recent fights.

    2. Rios has done NOTHING to make anyone think that he should be anying more than a speed bump for a still relevant Pac.

    3. Rios' style is tailor made to make Pac look good.

    4. Mayweather is not know for KO is punching power, he is know for boxing skill and ring inteligence.

    5. Canelo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rios

    6. This thread is a waste of time, because Floyd is held to a MUCH higher standard than anyone in boxing, including Pac (ie where are the calls for Pac to fight GGG, Canelo, Trout, Lara?).

Because he and Top Rank marketed him as a Mexican-Filipino slugger with explosive speed and power. That is his fault, that is marketing. Floyd is marketed as a crafty slick technician. Two different things, two different types of fighter "hype". Plus Manny just got KO'd and most people feel like he lost the other fight to JMM too so he is 1-3 right now. He beat Bradley but he didnt win none of those 2 fights with JMM. You gotta be who you say you are to avoid criticism among boxing fans. Same reason why people were mad that Broner didn't finish Paulie because they want what is advertised.

    I don't agree.

Pacquiao was still rated P4P #1 by some following his third fight with JMM. That alone disproves this thread... He was still rated P4P #1 by some following his defeat to Bradley (which I scored to Pac). Pacquiao is clearly the fan and media favorite of his generation and I think he gets criticized too little relative to other boxers if I'm being honest.

Mayweather just put on a much better show in terms of entertainment alone, not factoring caliber of opponent, than Pac has in every fight since Cotto excluding his KO defeat.

Mayweather absolutely dominates every opponent so I don't see what you're talking about in terms of people overplaying that. He puts in decisive 10-9 after 10-9.

First, a KO win is not a higher victory than a wide UD. Only KOtards think that. Manny has looked impressive in fights in which he didn't KO opponents and given due credit: Barrera, JMM, Mosley. On the flip side, Mayweather v Canelo and Rigo v Donaire were at least in my eyes more impressive than a KO as it is domination of a fighter for twelve rounds.

As for Rios, that's a straight up cherry pick against a fighter coming off a loss. Every knows why Arum picked him. People are waiting to see how Pacquiao responds and if there are any lingering effects from that KO. An 80% prime Pacquiao should KO Rios or at least seriously wobble him.

Getting knocked down twice one of them being a sleeping pill is hardly 100%.
(That is a myth about that fight)

JMM was targeting that right hand the entire fight.
I'm surprised Pac was able to take the shot he took right after Manny managed to get Juan's glove to touch the canvas.

What fantasy world is this? High expectations? Pacquiao can beat a faded Mosley and Margarito and everyone expects us to crown him.

What type of reaction do you think Mayweather would get if he announced he were fighting Matthysse in his next fight?
