It seems that the majority of fighters today are more concerned with keeping a perfect record rather than fighting good opposition and becoming more seasoned fighters. Once upon a time it was common for top fighters in Australia to have had multiple losses on their records they had incurred learning their craft and no one thought any less of their ability. Fighters like Tony Mundine, Barry Michael, Hector Thompson and Rocky Mattioli all had multiple domestic losses early in their careers, but learnt and continued on to have international success. It seems today that if a boxers suffers a loss they are either set back 12 - 18 months or damaged fighters, in this regards boxing could learn something from UFC, where fighters perfect records aren't given as high of a priority. I personally have more respect and believe that it is a better move in the long run for a fighter to test himself and learn, like Leti Leti, rather than keep a perfect record fighting outclassed opposition,like the majority of our prospects, and come up short on the big stage.
Add Fammo to your list. He had a loss and two draws within his fist 6 fights and I'm sure, like the ones you mentioned above, learnt from the experience. I've heard fighters say many times you learn the most from your losses, not your wins. There are an increasing number of fighters taking the easiest path, and not learning a damn thing along the way. At some point their inflated, padded record scores them a 'name' opponent and they get dished out to them in one night the boxing lesson they should have already learned from fighting a progression of increasingly better opponents on the way up. By then it's too late to do anything about it. Just another fighter having proved that this method of cheating your way is completely flawed.
To many choices and different Titles back then you had no choice you had to fight the best to get a World Title now Belts are like "Arseholes" everybodys got one.!!!!

It's a worldwide problem that is destroying boxing. The fans are in part to blame - the idea that a boxer has lost to anyone means he's a bum. It makes no logical sense. In no other sport does a competitor have to be undefeated almost his entire career. Some of the dumb **** I've read about Barrerra and Pacquiao where early losses are evidence of their overratedness, it kills my braincells reading that ****. If boxing was structured where the best met the best on a regular basis (as it should be) then no boxers would keep a zero.
It's called marketing. Floyd is now earning 50mil a fight for a 6 fight deal with showtime....... his unbeaten record must have something to do with that. Tyson lost a bit of his aura with the buster loss even though he was still a big hit. Sadly the whole business is about money..... Gen Y want it all and sport is no different.
Especially australian heavyweights like to fight bum after bum... till the point where a fighter like Toney or Johnson is seen as a big step up
Green has fought his fare share off bums, but his also fought beyer, lucas, Mundine, drews, Tarver, Flores, Wlod and Cameron, all of who are world class or fringe world class. Another big problem is money. Small time Australian promotors can't afford to get decent competitoj out here on a regular basis for our prospects
The Leti Leti situation made me think exactly the same thing. Totally agree. To the general sporting public though it's hard to deny the marketability of the term 'undefeated'
