Why are many Heavyweight boxers fat if you have to do a lot of cardio to be a good boxer ?

It's expensive isn't, having to eat as much food as you can... 4000 calories a day, stuffing down chocolate, pasta anything before midnight

The same reason some atheletes with under 10% body fat gas out quickly. They really aren't as related as you would think

The weight is a big advantage when it comes to punch resistance and strength. It will also give you sligthly more power by the added mass.

But the biggest advantage is the overall toughness it has over your opponent in Clinches and close range. Just look at Pulev, Miller, Kownacki, Ruiz, Whyte, Arreola, Chisora etc. They walk their opponents down and drain them.

Functional weight is a talent in hw boxing. Just like height, reach, reaction time, explosive muscle fibres, chin, power, IQ etc.

it's simple mathematics really. fighters like Ruiz are consuming more calories than they are burning off... Ruiz probably eats 4000-6000 calories a day, but even with the most intense hardcore training, a human can only burn 3000 calories per session...

The ferocious one el feroz Fernando Vargas said every fighters weight is heavy weight when they don't train. The great Vernon Forrest (God bless) said after a long layoff that he couldn't make any kind of weight. also feroz said he had to take NyQuil to help him sleep so he wouldn't think of food. Also Marcos maidana is basically 300 lbs right now if you've seen him in videos. Clarence bones Adams said it right: with success the reward is food. So the more one wins the more great he eats!
