I dont know much about how MMA is run but why arent the top fighters making more money? Will they eventually get to the point where they make millions for a fight? Or it will never be like that?
god i hope not.. nothing drains a fighters will like boatloads of cash can. id rather see them given a bonus if they go 5 wins unbeaten or something like that.
MMA will never generate the public interest of boxing, therefore never generating the money .. I have a great deal of respect for MMA fighters, but a great boxing fight is far more engrossing than an MMA fight .. Too often, once a guy gets in front in the UFC he wins comfortably, theres no up and down so it lacks excitement and most of the MMA guys punch like a drunk street brawler, they only land because MMA guys hardly move they're heads and have zero defence. Also, a lot of MMA fights are so boring when they are taken to the ground, i know its very technical and i respect that, but the fact is highly skilled boxers like Floyd Mayweather are far more skilled than the highest skilled fighters in MMA e.g. Anderson Silva .. Boxing has been mismanaged over the last 20 years, thats the only reason UFC is making inroads. I always watch the UFC and i can count on one hand how many top fights actually live up to the hype .. When UFC guys go 12 rounds, then we can talk about giving them a pay rise, most of them look gassed after 3 rounds .. UFC is totally a hype driven industry ..
I say NEVER, EVER, pay them any more than what their getting paid now. The less money there is, the more harder they work for it, thus equaling more, lucrative, competitive fights in MMA. Boxing paydays went up into the millions, and we hardly see great fights anymore.
so far the only guy i know that made over a million is fedor. affliction seems to give their fighters more money than the ufc fighters.
Some would have you believe that on paper they only make 10k but they really get bonuses of millions transferred secretly to their Swiss bank accounts. For example Joe Stevenson getting 25k losing to BJ Penn, in tears in the locker room about how hes paying the medical bills and bringing home the bacon to his wife and children. This is actually just a ploy by Dana so that th competition doesnt know what the UFC pays. In reality, Joe Daddy is set for life with some tax deferred annuity courtesy of the Fertitas
This is what got me thinking. These guys put their lifes on the line. The least they could do is get paid well and be set for life when they retire but when i see people in the main card making 10K and stuff like that its pretty sad. The top fighters dont make that much as well. But i think they really dont tell us all and maybe they do get a lot. I dont how it works.
