Carl Froch ( starting to get more known but still for his abilty he should be more famous)
    Ricky Burns
    Darren Barker
    Scott Quigg
    Jamie Mcdonnell

    proven world champions

surely our world champions should be the most known

yet you got bums like Amir Khan, Chisora, and Eubank Jnr more known to the public

that is the problem in this country

there is a big difference between the most famous boxers and the boxers with the most abilty

yet some dumbasses think the most famous ones are the best

I asked a few people I know who are sports fans and watch a little bit of boxing, I asked them who the UK's current world champions are ..

and they replied errr Amir Khan, Kell Brook......
    LOL!!!!!!!!!
they thought they were world champions

They to be mixing it with big American names to be big in America and like it or not, America is the 'home of boxing' Calzaghe didn't really make a name for himself until he went state side for Hopkins. Hatton, Khan, Froch, Naz all fought a lot in the US

I disagree. The UK and Germany both have a lot of ££££ and have big fights in big arenas. Plus most of the best fighters are from Europe.

I know what your saying, but America rarely looks past it's own shores. It has the history, the media, boxing movies the famous Gym's, the a-listers invite and historically speaking, the best fighters. Germany and the UK may create massive crowds, but Las Vegas and Madison Square gardens seem to create the biggest buzz in the sport. America is the litmus test for world class boxers. If There were more American heavy weights the Klitchko's could get stuck into, they'd be even bigger than they are now. I wish it wasn't that way, but America are the biggest players in world boxing.

boxing isn't a big sport in the UK atm. Hearn is doing a good job of improving the popularity of the sport imo.

Haye and Chisora futher send boxing into the doldrums with there antics and the sport is still recovering from that imo. Also Haye became the face of British boxing for awhile and hurt the sport with his poor quality fights and his awful preformance against Wald.

None of those guys being the 'main man' in their respective divisions doesn't help.

its nothing to do with that

fame in the UK in boxing doesnt have nothing to do with ability
if it did Calzaghe would have been a massive name years and years before he started to become more known

Chisora - is a big name because of his antics at weigh ins/ press conferences, etc, heavyweights in general are always a lot more known just because they are heavyweights.

Khan - is a massive name because hes a asian muslim

Eubank Jnr - is a big name because of his Dad and because of being hyped on terrestial TV

orlando cruz for exampe is getting known to non boxing fans just because he is GAY

But this wrong, it should be based on achievement and abilty, it annoys me that the best boxers in the UK are not known.... the likes of Martin Murray and Carl Frampton are top talents who should have more fame

Footballers in Britain are massive names because they are splashed across TV every day on the news all the time as well, its the same with many country's and footballers. Boxing is hardly ever in the news or on TV, or at least hardly ever on terrestrial TV. I don't have Sky so I have to stay up till about 1 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning just to watch a half an hour highlights programme (KOTV Boxing weekly). I wish another channel like the BBC would make a highlights programme and put it on a bit earlier maybe 9 10 11 o'clock at night for an hour or something like that. the only time we get to watch live boxing on Free view TV is the odd time about 3 or 4 times a year that channel 5 put on someone like DeGale, Eubank or Tyson Fury. ITV 4 used to put Friday night fights on but not anymore. It would be good if they put Boxing on a bit earlier so kids can watch it as well to get kids into boxing.

That is probably why Boxers are not big names in Britain any more, although I do think Boxing is making a bit more of a comeback and becoming more popular. There is a lot more people getting into boxing now, but sometimes in some smallish towns it is hard to find a boxing gym.

A couple of reasons, neither being anything other than obvious:

1: The diluted value of a 'world title' hurts everyone, but particularly those with 'legitimate' claims to being the best in a division.

2: Pro Boxing in this Country is not as popular as it once was.
