i've seen ray leonard in the top 10 in some atg lists when he only has like 40 fights but yet he's ranked higher than guys with 200+ records. that makes absolutely no sense at all and im starting to lose faith in certain hardcore boxing fans because the idea of p4p rankings is to rank fighters based on accomplishments. what has ray leonard accomplished with only 40 fights? floyd has more fights than him and i believe he's beaten more champions than him but floyd isn't even ranked on certain lists. at this point there's too many biases and agendas being pushed for anyone's opinion to be taken seriously. isn't there a certain criteria that fighters need to meet to be considered ATGs?
Ray beat better champions. The likes of Guerrero, everyone Floyd beat at 140, Victor Ortiz at 147...they're not champions by any stretch of the mark.
Because generally speaking p4p lists are seen through rose tinted glasses. The best example of this is the aforementioned Leonard being ranked above Duran. No silly Catchweights, no ring size demands, no stips on the type of gloves to be worn, no referee preferences. Just turn up and fight, yet STILL Leonard fanboys try to convince themselves their darling ranks higher.
Because it's all bull****. It's entertaining bull crockery but it's mostly arbitrary. It's art more than math. The difference between Muhammad Ali and Terrence Alli is vast. The difference between Ali and Benny Leonard, separated by 100 pounds and decades is in actuality negligible and impossible to ascertain with any degree of certainty.
Hernandez is not an ATg Marquez was old and brought up 2 divisions Dela Hoya was basically shot Mosley was shot Leonard took 3 years off and moved up what today would be two divisions to face a prime hagler He faced a prime Duran He faced a prime hearns He faced a prime benetiez Your either really dumb or just trolling
It was one division really, considering Leonard had already been the light middleweight champion when he beat Kalule, who incidentally was far better than Genaro Hernandez as well.
Above are prime examples of Leonard fanboyism. Prime Duran - Lost Prime Hearns - Weight drained to a point of stupidity. Prime Benitez - Bollocks!! The guy was already a well known coke head ( not to mention boozer ) by the time Leonard fought him. Hagler. - Legitimate fight, but still highly contested by both sides even today.
