Also Eubank was at the end of his career, and was past prime. He had suffered his 2nd loss to Collins 2 years previously. And had fought 2 journey men since then

congrats on being a ****ing idiot once again
MANFREDO you are giving credit for being a top super middle??????
    :rofl:rofl:rofl
Manfredo was horrible......somehow you bring in the name Jone Spina to make Manfredo look better?? idiot
robin reid is an average fight and was a belt holder who did not have 1 ****ing significant win his entire career.....
so joe beating robin reid meant **** considering reid had just LOST to Sugar Boy Malinga a year earlier....then lost to Joe....then lost his next fight vs Branco...:yep but yeah, thats a great win for SUPER JOE ...DUMMY...he might as well have been facing Reid coming off a loss because reid had 1 fight since getting beat up by sugar boy and that was against a guy with 8 wins and 3 losses....then he fights super joe....wow..Bailey you are a delusional idiot

So Eubank was past prime at 31, where he was 17-2-2 in world title fights, having only lost to one fighter, once by debateable decision many felt he won and the other by SD both away.
Yet Froch who at 34 and 5-1 in world title fights, being behind against 2-1 in his last 3 fights Taylor, losing to Kessler UD, SD against Dirrell and MDec against old Johnson who is a glorified journeyman was prime :patsch.

So many people rate Wards win over Kessler as something special yet dont rate Calzaghes victory over Eubank. Why?

It was Wards 21st fight, Ward was 25
It was Calzaghes 23rd fight, Calzaghe was 25

    Ward won at home
    Calzaghe won away

When Ward beat Kessler, Kessler was 42-1-0
When Calzaghe beat Eubank, Eubank was 45-2-2

    Kessler was 31
    Eubank was 31

Kessler was 8-1 in world title fights
Eubank was 17-2-2 in world title fights

It was just under 3 years since Kessler beat a world rated opponent
It was just under 3 years since Eubank beat a world rated opponent

Kessler had only fought 3 completed rounds in 1 fight in a year before fighting Ward
Eubank had only fought 7 completed rounds in 2 fights in a year before fighting Calzaghe

    Kesslers only loss was clear
Eubanks 2 losses - first was very close (debateable) the second was a SD, to the same fighter.

    Kessler was favourite to win.
100 years of Boxing News claims Calzaghe was underdog, I have read Calzaghe was underdog but some posters claim he was betting favourite, though.

Notes Eubank was a strong favourite, but dont know where the site got its info.

Both Ward and Calzaghe had dominant performances with Calzaghe scoring 2 KDs.

After the loss Kessler beat undefeated WBC champ Froch
After the loss Eubank fought WBO CW champ Thompson and lost a close decision scoring a KD. Eubank fought a return with the bigger Thompson and lost on injury when ahead. Thompson was a CW and the only fighter to have beaten D Haye.

I have read how people on ESB say Eubank was shot so -
How far past prime was Eubank to you then?
Eubank had lost a close decision to Collins, that many thought he won, had a couple of tune ups and rematched Collins to a SD, had a couple of tune ups and lost clearly to underdog Calzaghe. After that loss Eubank went up to CW and challenged world champ Thompson losing a very close decision and then rematched Thompson losing on injury when ahead. Thats Thompson who years later past his best KOd D Haye.
Consider Eubank only had 2 losses to one fighter when he fought Calzaghe, the second by SD to a world champ and was 31 then went on to challenge a big CW flooring him etc, how past his prime do YOU think he was?
Remember Kessler is Wards big win and was the same age as Eubank here and had around the same amount of fights, so is Kessler shot as well, because Kessler has a serious eye problems and was an unwell double vision suffering fighter who has been inactive for a while now due to his injury

Remember when you make silly comments about losses was G Johnson considered past his prime when years ago after losing to Hopkins he went 7-9-2 including the Hopkins loss

Wait a second....Calzaghe fought AWAY against Eubank??

It was in London a neautral city. Eubank was from Brighton, Calzaghe was from Newbridge....how was Calzaghe fighting AWAY when he grew up about 100 miles from the place he fought???

Ward is class but there are weaknesses.. would have been interesting to see a prime calz and ward square off - joe would have been a nightmare for ward imo.. Nigel Benn is the one i would have loved to see fight ward:hey But all i can do is fantasise cos as it stands ward is the best until proven otherwise.

:patsch You are thick. I have never rated Manfredo but note at SMW he wasnt far different to Abraham who couldnt compete at SMW coming off of 2 clear S6 losses. WAKE UP DIP****.
Shows how little you know of Reid, because he had up and down nights but he still looked the winner against Ottke. Still compare Reid to Froch and Reid did more. Tell me what relevant SMWs Froch beat?:hi:

UMMMM Froch was coming off world title fights and winning against quality opposition.

Eubank hadnt beaten a top level fighter in 3 or more years when he fought Calzaghe.

    THATS the difference.

    London - England
    Brighton - England
    Newbridge - Wales.
Calzaghe was born in London but grew up in Wales which is where he considered himself from and what nationality he is.

    Different countries

What top quality wins was Froch coming off.
Old journeyman Johnson who at SMW was In 12 SMW fights Johnson has lost 6 of them.
Johnson has lost at SMW to -

M Sosa who had 5 losses and 2 draws, and lost his next 2 fights after beating Johnson
Kiwanuka who had 3 losses and 2 draws, had lost his last 2 fights coming into his fight with Johnson and his fight after Johnson
Ottke 16-0 who in fairness was an outstanding SMW boxer
Vanderpool 27-1 who lost his next fight, but in fairness that was at MW to Hopkins and Vanderpool had a good run after
Branco 38-4-2 who was a world class SMW and became WBA LHW champ
Sheika who was 19-1 and lost his next fight, though in fairness that was to Calzaghe.

The SMWs that Johnson has managed to beat
Campas 3-20-4 coming off of only 2 losses and won his next fight
Watson 24-16-1, Johnson was his last fight
Renteria 9-23-5 coming in, whos last 10 fight record before facing Johnson was 0-8-2
Zimmerman 15-2-0 coming in, who had lost his previous fight and the one after
A Green 29-2-0 coming in and Johnsons biggest SMW victory

Its not impressive now is it. Please spare me the robbery talk.
If any rated SMW losses to Johnson it wont look good on their resume

To think beating Green was all Johnson had to do to become a Ring rated SMW in todays ratings.

Abraham who wasnt even a top SMW coming in off a loss

I noticed you totally ignored Eubanks competition before the Calzaghe fight.

Which outside of being beaten twice by Collins was ATROCIOUS!!

yes, it's way better. the hopkins win was debatable and joe bitched out of a rematch in his own hometown because he knew he got lucky. Froch was closer to prime and thoroughly whooped, bika was more experienced and still lost, abraham and green are way better than lacy and manfredo. this is a good thread idea. we can compare top 5 wins.
