Every Fighter Presents Different Challenges, Weaknesses & Strengths... So Why Are People saying if Hopkins fought like this against ________ he would have won? different styles force different game plans... so there is a possibility that Hopkins could never reproduce a performance like this ever again, as far as technique goes. But at the same time. This definitely was one of his best performances
I thought Hopkins fought a diffeent fight in this one because he had all the time in the world and skills to force himself on Pavlik and take away Pavliks limited gameplan. Your right the old adage 'styles makes fights' is appropriate, if Hopkins had come out swinging and trying to enforce an aggressive, offensive gameplan against Calzaghe he would have been playing into JC's hands as he is a great counterpuncher. Hopkins knew this and fough a smart, calculated defensive fight and made Joe come at him (something which JC naturally doesnt like to do). For people to say that if BHOP (who I thought was great against KP) had fought like that against JC he would have won is denying the fact thought Hopkins knew the best way to win against Joe and that defensive gameplan didnt work. If the fight had been open the scoreline wold have been a wider margin IMO. Just shows how great fighters adapt to their opponent.
Yep it's ridiculous. I'm waiting for the 'If Pavlik Had Fought Hopkins Like He's Been Pounding Away On The Heavy Bag He Would Have Knocked Him Out In 17 Seconds' thread.
