Why are people giving Curtis Stevens a chance against Golovkin ?

Rosado only lasted 2 rounds against Angulo and didn't land a punch.

GG needed 7 rounds and end-swell to get it done.

 

Maybe Golovkin will be better than Hagler, maybe:think

 

It seems to be just desperate Americans giving him a chance. So desperate for a "great black hope" that they're collectively wanking over a mediocre talent like Stevens.

Stevens will get destroyed in under 5 rounds.

 

People keep saying that he has a puncher's chance but I'm not so sure that he punches that much harder than Macklin. Couple that with the fact that he'll have to work considerably harder to land anything and I'm not so sure he'll be any more competitive than Mack, overall.

Golovkin had 350 amateur fights. He is quick, has stamina, has power, knows how to set an opponent up, and he will be very hard to hit. However, anything can happen in boxing, you just never know no matter how good a fighter is. Lewis was knocked out by Rahman. Lewis was stopped by McCall. Tyson was stopped by Douglas, etc.

Almost everyone expects Golovkin to beat Stevens by knockout though and so do I, but.................

I saw the PPV Golovkin Vs. Ishida, Paul Williams could not hurt Ishida, could not even knock him down, but Golovkin went to Japan and knocked Ishida through the ropes and out cold!!! Then there is Martinez' opponent where he stopped him with a vicious body shot!!!

 

Of course Curtis has a chance, this is boxing, and at the end of the day part of its allure is the fact that a single punch can change or determine the outcome of a fight.

In this case Stevens has a chance, just not much of one. The kid has power, some speed and some skill, but is at least a level below GGG. Golovkin is actually (given his reputation for aggression) remarkably careful not to get tagged too heavily, but will need to keep his wits about him.

I see GGG breaking Stevens down in 4-6, but if someone gave me odds of 30-1 on Stevens I might put a tenner down.

i dont count stevens out but im deff pickin GGG .. GGG has looked impressive but yes he hasnt fought any one to good but still solid opponents. an curtis is another one. curtis has a dangerous left hook , but i feel all GGG punches are dangerous. GGG has perfect balance and thats why there so powerful. and GGG defense is no joke imo.

 

...so does Golovkin, and he is more skilled with a better chin.

 

That's what gigantic maybe...At 31.....He's got a looong way to go.

I don't see Hagler losing a round to anybody on GG's meager resume..

 

How do you know he's more skilled and has a better chin?

What puncher has he faced?

If shot to hell 154lb Ouma had HALF of Steven's power GG would still be asleep.
