because golovkin's chin hasn't been tested and curt stevens had dynamite hands at mw.

When someone has that long a spell in the amateurs, if there is any concern of a glass jaw there will be foretelling whispers (see David Price for example)

He fought the best in the world for years and I have never once heard that he was ever put in serious jeopardy by anyone with headgear on.

Now after having removed it, granted he is yet to face a puncher quite like Stevens but I'm satisfied even with the few shots I've seen him take flush that he is made of sterner stuff than Elvin Ayala or Saul Roman. How quick everyone is to forget that Derrick Findley very recently went the distance with Stevens and made him look pretty ordinary. Now, it's true Findley has a great chin, as do some of the others who made the final bell with Stevens (Dhafir Smith, Don Mouton, Darnell Boone, Marcos Primera...who actually knocked Stevens out in their first encounter) but the point is that he doesn't automatically incapacitate everyone he touches. Hell, nobody would say Jesse Brinkley is the world's most durable guy and he not only went 12 with Stevens but defeated him, soundly. So while the jury is still out indeed as to whether Golovkin has a Hagler-like chin...we can say at this point even with the hardest stuff landing on it coming from survival-mode Proksa and Rosado that it can at the very least be called sturdy with no red flags as of yet. If there are no red flags already surrounding a boxer's chin, I'm not going to assume Stevens can knock him out.

fair point, however, I never would assume that stevens can knock him out. I am simply answering the question as to why people give him a shot against GGG. I personally think GGG will neutralize stevens' power by using his superior skills to get to stevens first, better, and more often, without taking many, if any shots of note.

If Stevens jumps on ggg earlier and unload that left hook anything can happen.

Because he punches hard. Anyone that punches hard has a chance. That said, most people are picking GGG.

Stevens is explosive and has alot of power + Golovkin gets hit
Stevens definitely has a chance here.

    So which one is it?
Some say we need to see how Golovkin reacts to being hit before he's "for real".
Others say he gets hit too much and is "there to be hit".
    Which one is it? Both?

after watching a couple of golovkin's fights, the dude is nothing special...old wore out kassim ouma was able to land at will and was ahead in the fight after 8 rounds. golovkin's weakness...lack of defense and easy to hit and slow of hand and foot. a guy like that iis gonna be target practice for stevens if stevens has decent (not great) movement, counterpunching, power and speed. golovkin gets all this hype because he beat a guy named rosado who i never heard of and matthew macklin who i also never heard of but who gave sergio martinez a good fight. so he beat two club fighters and this makes him great?

GG doesn't bring his punches straight back...he drops them...then he brings them up.

    Lack of defense?

What's your point? Lack of defense?

    - According to some commentators, like Ward, you are very strong in all the components, but not very much on defense that can be dangerous in a fight against a strong puncher. How do you comment on their claims?

    - I do not know from where they get that I pay a little attention to the defence (surprised)? Just as Macklin, who said that I had no experience, I'm neglecting the defense. I heard that. I'll say that I was more experienced in my 20 years in comparison with their 30ies in pro fighting! This is nothing more than self-deception. If somewhere in the fight I neglect defense, it does not mean that I'm not being defensive. Quite possibly I just

. I look. This is the tactics! If I ignored the defense, it would have been fractures, cuts, knockdowns, knockouts. I've never been knocked out or knocked down! And it does not say about the strength of my head, it's boxing on highly technical level.

Yeah OK - so you watched a 'couple' of fights including perhaps his two worst performances (one in which he was ill, the other in which he'd spent the two days prior to the fight stuck in an airport unable to train or eat properly) out of 27, in which he still won by stoppage.

You've never heard of either Rosado (who was a serious JMW contender or Macklin (ditto at MW - 2 time challenger and top 5 for about 3 years), and you think that Ouma was ahead after 8.

It's a acronym I'm loath to use, but in this case it's abundantly clear that you DKSAB.

Incidently Findley has been sparring with GGG just recently, says that GGGs a real hard hitter, whereas what Curtis brings is more about good handspeed and flurries.

I think Curtis works best as a counter puncher, catching people when they load up or in exchanges, but I simply don't see Gennady leaving him these kinda openings.
