Eh it was a legal shot but it was the refs call to give him time. Let’s be real with how high Usyk puts up his shorts, there was no way that was anywhere near the genital region. We can’t say it’s a KO because we don’t know how Usyk would have reacted if a count was called.

This narrative that Usyks shorts was high needs to stop.

 

That punch being low was at best low by a technicality becasue the pinky side of the glove was a tiny bit below the mark.
Usyk got wrecked by a punch to the tummy. He was not hit in the groin.
You can say he would have gotten up, but if he would have, then give that man an Oscar for best actor. He looked absolutely devastated in those moments. I don't think he would have gotten up, but we will never know the answer to that hypothetical.

All that aside, this doesn't mean Usyk sucks, or that he's doomed to get stopped his next fight. It just means he is a man and like anyone he can be put down if the right punch hits him.

I think people would care more about the body shot had the fight gone to the score cards. Dubois getting absolutely wrecked and stopped sort of put a damper on any claim to be the better fighter that night.

 

Funny the thumbnail for the YouTube video you've linked shows the ref (in a different fight, mind) indicating the borderline for legal/illegal blows above the point at which Dubois' glove hits Usyk. Well done in debunking yourself...

When are people going to realise that it's "below the belt" not on the groin? It was a low blow, the ref recognised that, and Dubios got folded by a jab.

Fury however arguably lost on points and got dropped by a novice.

I disagree with quite how low it was - I thought it was a clear low blow, at least 50% below the belt line...

But in any case, even if it was only 5% or 10% below, it's still a foul and I'd prefer to see a fight go the distance (genuine KO/TKO or clean bodyshot excepted) than be won by a foul shot - borderline or otherwise.

Dubois didn't deserve to win the fight off that punch - he came in intending to hit low as a tactic and clearly wasn't at all surprised or incensed when the ref called it...
The deliberateness and repeatesness of the fouling in this fight made me particularly glad that the referee didn't just let it go (which happens far too often) - a correct call that was good for the sport for exactly the same reason that it was good that the Okoliepus finally met a referee that wouldn't permit consistent fouling.

Is Usyk weak to the body?
Maybe... But it's hard to tell when the punch that did the damage was clearly low, and came from a quite heavy puncher - then again, why did that particular punch have that effect when plenty of other heavy shots to the body (including some other low ones) didn't and haven't before?
It's interesting to consider, but short of making sure you've got a corrupt or blind referee deliberately punching low doesn't look like a good tactic for beating Usyk IMHO.

 

Perfect belly button bodyshot. Referee was clearly bought, he was keen to make sure no clinches were engaged either.

It crippled Usyk, he was trembling on the canvas. I do think he would have got up if the count started but I'd like to have seen him survive out the round.

No different to the Khan Judah bodyshot KO. First time ever a belly shot which is always legal has been debated so heavily.

Can't see Usyk's belly button because its under his belt, a beltline which is legal to hit. Always been legal to hit. Will always be legal to hit. Fury will hit it. Get over it.

& yes it's been known since the dawn of time that Usyk is soft the body but not soft enough that a relatively light hitting Fury will be able to KO him. He will hurt him though & if Usyk gets out of position badly enough and Fury can somehow whip an unsighted left hook bodyshot which was a speciality of his as a baby then he might be able to down Usyk.

 

Totally agree I'm not gonna argue with people about it because the debate has been done to death.

But looking at Usyk's reaction the way he was shaking and totally out of breath, to me I don't think he would've been able to get up if a ref deemed it a knockdown.

I don't blame the referee but I still think it was an abdomen shot and Usyk was a bit fortunate.

But at the end of the day I'm glad Dubois didn't win especially the way he ended the fight that was pathetic in all honesty no offence.

 

Well , if at all it was a marginal low blow with borderline high shorts and the fact usyk folded like a pocket knife from it shows how fragile he is on the body .

Most referees would count this .

If he was that hurt like it appeared he is more than lucky he did not lost this fight . If he would stand up on the count he prooved he is a cheating actor . Both ways he lost reputation , and that against the weakest opponent available .

 

Still though: How the **** did Dubois end up fighting for the title?

 

Because usyk managed to succesfully duck wilder and fight the weakest opponent available covering himself behind 'mandatory' .
