Why are people saying Wilder has a great chin now?

he is lucky Ortiz did not tag him 30 secs earlier in that round. He just got to the bell, and then he got an extra 10 secs for some unknown reason.

I think this is a fair comment. I thought Ortiz would close the show on Wilder if he landed a few flush ones. He did. But Wilder hung in there and you have to give him credit for that. I'd say his chin has improved since the Sconiers days. I'd upgrade it from "toilet paper" to "average for HW" chin. I think all that training paid off big time for him.

Are you now saying Lemieux isn't a puncher?? Alvarez, I can give you. But Curtis Stevens, DL, Danny Jacobs even the likes of Matt Macklin etc had a dig. GGG has taken shots off them all and not be phased. I think he was more worried about the cards and the hand speed of Alvarez than taking a dig and Alvarez has plenty of steam on then and landed clean.

AnwwayI thought Wilder would get KO'd he's been rocked by some many ordinary fighters but he took it and gave it and he's gone up in a lot of peoples estimation now. If Joshua also look good next fight out then fight grows even more

Dino's a professional hater. He'd argue that Wlad would get slept by Charlie Zelenoff and while his hatred for GGG isn't quite on that level, he rarely has a good word to say about him.

He doesn`t have a great chin if Ortiz wasn`t so old he would have finished him, he was out on his feet.

Wilders chin is still slightly average it’s his will, determination and confidence that seems to keep him on his feet when rendered vulnerable.

Matthew Macklin is a noted big puncher and in his own words he landed the biggest shot he’s ever thrown on GGGs chin, MM said when it it landed he immediately thought he’d got him only for Golovkin to walk straight through it without blinking.

Interesting listening to the US commentary that they repeatedly mentioned Wilder being floored only ONCE in his career that by Harold Sconiers. No mention of the Dustin Nichols knockdown, it wasn’t even acknowledged in the number of times Wilders been off his feet.

 Funny thing is that Povetkin always looks bad vs taller opponents. Rudenko and Wach made Povetkin look like doo doo. They had a nice height and reach advantage and they fought very passively.
Something that Hammer did as well.

I am kinda expecting Price to barely throw anything and Povetkin wont know wtf to do with him. And the rounds will drag on until Price's hamster lungs run out of breath.

I believe your analysis is a bit inaccurate and while I lean more towards still having more questions than answers regarding Wilders chin comparing his chin to GGG is far from relative other than the two being boxers that eat punches from time to time.

I’ll take into consideration that judging from past posts and the support of resident “Supremicist” Todd that we may be dealing with a sprinkle of the good old cognitive bias. What type of mental biased? More than likely confirmation bias. I’ll keep it simple Mr. Smith, this a classic case of false equivalents since GGG normally takes hits from much smaller men with less concussive energy & weight traveling through their fists. Combine this with GGGs style which normally welcomes an expected punch from opponents who are relative in size, weight and bone structure. Wilder took some clean power shots from a heavy hitting experienced pro who had 30 pounds of extra force to work with when compared to Wilder.

To Wilders credit he never once looked confused or in awe of the situation, he seemed very composed and accepting of the onslaught. Like I’ve uttered dozens of times in here if you try removing your inherent initial examinations of a man and scrutinize what they have shown as a fighter it will help paint a clearer picture for you.

Jury’s still out on Wilder in terms of his ability to be dropped by a seasoned KO puncher and recuperate the way he did versus Ortiz.

I had Wilder by UD or late KO,so got that bit right. Wilder is to athletic for an aging Ortiz..And then there's that power. What did surprise me was Wilder's chin and heart. Ok he ain't got a great chin by any means, but it's better than I thought. He can be hurt, the same as AJ can.Makes for interesting viewing for me.

Wilder's defense is more troubling to me than his chin. Ortiz landed 46% of his power punches.

I noticed the same, though I also noticed a considerable amount of rolling with those punches which isn’t a measureable stat.

I don't think Matthew Macklin ever said that. Matthew Macklin hit Martinez more than he hit GGG. I actually don't remember him landing anything on GGG chin.
