Why are people so down on Joshua after the Takam fight?

I watched it live in the stadium so I didn't really have a great view at the time, watching it back now Joshua won easily! Way easier than Povetkin and Parker did yet I've heard people say the contrary, this despite a nasty headbutt in round 2 which was bound to effect him.

Because Takam was competitive and made Joshua look mortal. I knew Takam would be a stiff test, he's a solid, quality heavyweight. I still think he beats Wilder.

The ending ruined it really. Joshua looked to be blowing big time and then the fight was stopped for basically nothing. He was handily winning by then of course but it was competitive. I think it brings some questions about how powerful AJ actually is as well

I think that on 90% of occasions, the view people have of a fight is entirely based on the ending.

The Takam fight was stopped earlier than it should have been, so people will have a negative view of it. If the fight had carried on and had either a more decisive stoppage or a points victory, I think the view would be more favourable.

because too many posters dont analyse fights and fighters and have pre conceived notions of what will happen pre fights

whatever happens good or bad if a favourite does not ko in 3 rounds or less his detractors will jump on them

the pro bias fans are just as guilty of making there fighters into monsters and deserve the comebacks if they predict there fighter strolls to a win when boxing knowledge should be enough to know there fighter is in with an opponent that wont lay down.

It was a good fight for Joshua, hes still learning on the job and Takam provided a fair set of new problems for AJ to overcome and learn from. It wasnt pretty by Joshua standards, Takam landed a few too many times coming from lower angles, the headbutt is a biggy, good that it happened early cuz its a real shocker 1st time it happens and it will happen again, wont be new for him next time.

Most people are not down on it because they expected a quick KO, it wasnt pretty, Joshua was in control of the fight but was not controlling his opponant. Real Boxing fans are down on the fact the stoppage was awful and some people are just haters and cant wait to get hold of any weakness that they see or think they see and then go overdose on it pretty much calling the man a fraud.

Personally i enjoyed the fight, im a fan of Joshua, my only downers were how easy Takam got to him at times and his size and stamina. He is too big and i would hope that had the plan been Takam and not Pulev from the start he would of come in lighter than that. There must be a reason for being that big cuz if i were his trainer i would be on his case about it big time.

The fight exposed how green Joshua is, which isn't his fault, since no pro fighter is fully developed with only 19-20 fights, which is why I knew Hearn would try to hold off on Joshua fighting Parker or Wilder until he gets more experience. Joshua's timing and his footwork also needs some work since he wasted a lot of energy and Takam exploited it as best he could, but Takam has zero punching power.

Povetkin fought Takam in cruise control most of the fight and was very accurate with his shots while Takam missed most of his. Also, as soon as Povetkin increased his pace he easily destroyed Takam as would Wilder or Ortiz.

Joshua punches way harder than Povetkin, but has horrendous timing when his opponent has any mobility. Because of Joshua's size missing all those power shots drained his stamina very quickly. When Takam starting gassing himself Joshua was able to start placing his shots and got the stoppage, but Takam is a top 15-20 heavyweight at best.

This fight showed Joshua needs maybe 4-5 more fights before fighting much more experienced fighters like Wilder, Povetkin, or Ortiz. But, they need to be good opponents. I think Hughie Fury would be a great opponent for Joshua, since he's a very durable and mobile opponent and would most likely take Joshua 12 rounds. Ruiz and Browne would also provide great experience for Joshua.

It was a good fight ruined by a crappy ending. Takam was a long way from being finished and despite losing almost every round he still deserved the dignity of going the distance.

Despite dominating Joshua looked rather unconvincing throughout. The referee appeared to want any excuse to not only stop the fight, but to give Joshua breaks due to his questionable stamina. In general it seemed the referee wanted to protect Joshua's 100% knockout record, which I don't believe reflects his true punching power. He clearly hits hard but simply is not a one-punch hitter.

Absolute stupid stoppage. Being a sanctioned title fight, you would think there would be some kind of investigation on that referee. Is the bald headed goon still officiating?

Because in boxing logic a guy who doesn't even spar anyone under 6'3 ever takes a fight on 2 weeks notice and has to revamp his entire train of thought dominates the entire fight and EVERY round its still exposing someone. Thus continues the dumbing down of the boxing fanbase.

    For those comparing povetkin......

Takam was 20 pounds over his fight weight at 260 plus in Russia and sluggish. He also had been training for Joshua as soon as the Pulev fight was signed....if that's not an advantage I don't know what is. Lol

Joshua is much much better than Wilder will ever be.... He'd beat him 5 fights ago, right now or in 5 fights time.

I thought the critical was unfair. It was a good performance against a very skilled, tough and game fighter. And Joshua fought most of the fight with a broken nose.

Joshua showed good variety to open up Takam. But he can't be expected to blast good fighters out every time.

Joshua did come in too heavy though and it did affect his movement. He needs to lose 10pounds of muscle.

    Exactly this.

Takam had proven himself twice before at world level against Povetkin and Parker and gave both of them trouble so the predictions that Joshua would just blow him away were from poorly informed or uneducated fans who thought Takam was another bum just because he wasn't a big name. Joshua before the fight said he expected the fight to go 10 rounds, this was never going to be a quick KO.

Fact is Joshua dominated Takam. But because it wasn't a quick KO as some predicted then of course it was all down to a poor Joshua performance and nothing to do with people being unable to analyse a fight and make a correct prediction.
