He had not to be in condition to continue because it's the 12th round. Saved by the bell means that the bell saves you even if you don't get up.

Thtat's been 2 years and you are still too lazy to read the rules. :patsch

Haters say the ref helped Bute. :scaredas: He didn't obviously, we are still talking about thal 2 years later.

The funny part is the ref is a personnal friend of Howard Grant, who was Andrade's coach at the time. A long time friend.

I like Bute and I think he's underated by many on here, but imo he should have lost this fight and I've seen it many times. In all fairness he came back to leave no dought in anybody's mind but it was a loss.

    As I see it:

at 9 he's up (looked in no condition to fight what so ever)
at err 17 or 18 the ref counts 6.

I dont know mate... Ko or not, what counts is that Andrade got a rematch to make up for it.

So you can get up, still be on ***** street and be laying back on the ropes...completely unable to continue and that's ok if it's the last round??? Yeah ok :nut Maybe that's the rules in Canada....

An it's really what happened. However, boxing is a sport that a lot of stupid people follows just to see people getting knocked out. They don't understand **** and keep talking about controversies that were clearly proven wrong. I'm not arguing with these fools. Do the count, he was up at 8 or 9... even if that was 2 or 3 for the stupid ref.

Bute should have been counted out but he redeemed himself and more by giving Andrade a rematch and schooling him.

it doesn't matter one way or the other - and that's how it'll be remembered once bute steps up and fights top guys.

andrade is a tough guy but that's all. bute will either make his mark or he won't.

Technically according to the rules - which empower the referee to make the call at their own discretion - he was not knocked out.

What can be questioned is Marlon Wright's discretion in the situation. Wasting that much time yelling at Andrade to go to the neutral corner when Andrade was nowhere near the opposite corner with Bute (which is really the function of that rule: not having the fighter who scored the KD near the downed opponent, so as to prevent any illegal blows before action officially resumes). Look at the majority of knockdowns in boxing. Does the KD-scoring fighter go and stand exactly in the neutral corner 100% of the time? Of course not. In the excitement they usually run around with their hands up smiling at the crowd. The referee is usually busy applying the count and often doesn't enforce the "neutral corner" thing unless that fighter is encroaching near the downed opponent (again, to avoid situations like Soto-Lorenzo I and Barrera-Marquez).

So basically the answer is "technically no - BUT, should be yes had Wright exercised better judgment".

I'll just post this 82,455 times if needed:

"Look at this video from 2005 (Jean Pascal vs. Donnie Penelton).
    See something familiar?

    from 2:30
So it's not like it's the first time for Marlon. Only then it was against a Canadian."

OK. So he's got a track record. He's not a great referee.

To Marlon and other officials: If you've started a count, focus on the count unless the other fighter's behavior is out of line and he's getting way too close or you legitimately feel he is overexcited and a threat to you (getting in his way) or the downed fighter. If he's pacing in and out of the opposite corner 12 feet away and not staying exactly in the corner the whole time...too ****ing bad. Mind the task at hand, and don't be constantly craning your neck to bother with what the other boxer is doing. Be more like Bayless, Nady and Smoger - and less like yourself. FFS.
