Many fighters today have Tyson as their nickname; 'white Tyson', 'mini Tyson', etc. It seems many boxing pundits are waiting for another Mike Tyson, but I think this is wrong. When Muhammad Ali retired, they wanted another Ali but never got it. Instead Tyson came along. Tyson, was completely different to Ali; he was a short 19 year old wrecking machine, completely different style and personality. When the next great H.W comes along, he won't be ''another Ali'' or ''another Tyson'' - he'll probably be something new.
Both Ali and Tyson transcended boxing to the point they were the most famous sportsmen on the planet. No boxers come close to that level of infamy since
If another ali came along he would be booed out of the ring for not engaging, while HIS time it looked good ,you are delusional if you think someone who waits on his opponent to slow is going to be be received as good in modern times, you are mistaken,People cried when Haye ran around trying to find some ***** in wlads armour, imagine fighting like that every fight, this is what Ali basically did,but without the punching power, its one of the biggest flip fops in boxing, you guys cry that no one fights but then wants an ali like guy that runs around the ring like a bigger maywether.Everyone complains with Wlad even with his high k.o percentage ,do you really think another Ali is going to get a warm reception?:-( I would say Joshua is a mix of Tyson and Lewis.Thats the next thing as it looks.Pepole are looking for excitement ,Tyson provided,Ali in comparison does not, only if you count when hes on an even playing field..Norton/Fraizier/foreman..Tyson had the fan friendly style no way around it.
Because Tyson made boxing more fun than it ever was and it ever will be. Tyson is the most entertaining fighter ever. Hard to find a guy that fought with the killer instinct and intensity of Mike, that looks like he's throwing caution to the wind, but is actually skilled as hell. Combine that with his crazy speed and power.
If Tyson came out now ala 1985 he'd have to relocate to Germany or England. That is where the scene is centred now, so no point in even dreaming of another 19 y/o kid blasting out stateside cans.
"the Next Tyson" is shorthand for: The next HW Champ that is exciting and engaging. Must watch events etc. Not literally looking for a guy that is exactly like Tyson. It's like this, the HW scene is lampooned often (and loudly) as being boring as ****, irrelevant, a cure for insomnia, slow, a jab-and-grabfest, boring...and did I mention "boring" already? I'm not saying whether that opinion has any merit since it's a matter of taste, but it is what (a lot) of people think about HW boxing currently. Waiting for the "next Tyson" is a hope that things will be fun and exciting again, like when Tyson was the biggest star in the sporting world.
