Different point - but he didn't put much on, did he?

He was deffo dead at the weight

I don't understand why Pacman put on 7lbs either, why cut to 142 in the first place?

Because Pacquiao trains intensely so he will lose weight. He's always been one to rehydrate massively once he's been given a free reign to eat what he wants overnight. Even when he was at 130 he was rehydrating into the 140's. You can't just tell your body to stop losing weight if you do not fill out the weight naturally.

alot of people are writing Pacquiao off against Hatton as well.

I think its gonna be a close one. The key being who can control where the fight is fought. Against the ropes or in the middle.

imo the size of the ring will be a huge factor

Manny's speed and workrate V Hatton's pressure and strength

As someone said when they are infighting and Manny comes out wont Hatton have to stay right on top of him like the Kosta fight ? Hatton's last fight at times, he seemed to be in two minds as in what to do. The way he had been fighting previous or back to the younger Hatton, on his toe's making angles.

His next fight will show more clearly if Mayweather has him back to boxing more but that will play right into Pac's hands will it not ?

For hatton to win he needs to be all over him like a rash and I don't care how good manny his he'll have a hard time keeping hatton off him.

Ironically as John said above, this is one fight that Hatton SHOULD try the steamroller tactics

Since Tszyu he's pretty much tried it every fight and looked relatively poor doing so

But this is one fight where he needs to do it, deny Manny the space to work

At the same time I believe that is a very dangerous tactic against Pacquiao. He could find himself busted up quick if he goes completely back to his old charging in tactics. The handspeed and southpaw stance of Pacquiao will slice him up with combinations. He still has to do it in an educated manner in my opinion if he wants to stand a chance.

The top and bottom of it is he MUST get hold of Pacquiao for long enough to do any work. He could even be clever and wait for Pacquiao to come in and then be quick enough to tie him up - I doubt Pacquiao would expect that. Or he really has to meet Pacquiao head on behind a jab, and keep his damn hands high up and not just below his chin as he often does.

I really aren't sure what Pacquiao is going to bring.

IMO Roach respected Oscar's jab and left hook a lot (having worked with him) and therefore instructed his man to fight 'in and out' which he did perfectly. It was made to look even more effective by DLH barely throwing anything.

Against Diaz he was much more sustained in his attack, hardly surprising really. That said, he was pretty much handpicked.

Hatton isn't that big a puncher, despite his impressive KO ratio. Roach might want Pac to stand and trade to a degree - the southpaw stance tends to take out his left to the body a fair bit..... Ricky is himself vulnerable to the mid-section.....

I can't pick a winner to be honest, though I am edging towards Hatton. If Ricky gets sufficient chance to fire to the body I see Pac going over late.

That's funny, I'm more unsure what to expect from Hatton than Pacquiao. Hatton's last fight hinted at a change in philosophy under Mayweather Sr. He noticeably tried to "box" more and set up his attacks in a more correct way. Will we see a continuation of that, or the crude Hatton we saw last time he fought the best fighter?

Pacquiao always fights the same. He's improved his boxing skills and developed his jab but its essentially the same style but he's improved his overall skillset.

    Yeah....

Essentially he is the same but tends to adapt certain things according to the opponent.

I wonder what he intends to do with Hatton.... plenty on the GF are suggesting he will see him as an orthodox version of Diaz.... limited, not much power, slow etc.

I could just see this being Pac vs Morales I - OK Hatton isn't as skilled, but a similar conclusion.

    Good thread.

When this fight was first discussed over a year ago, I thought that Hatton would basically overpower Pacquiao but I have been impressed with the way that Manny has managed to stay competative coming up in weight.

Its a 50/50 for me and the winner facing Floyd later in the year would help make 09 a damn decent year for boxing.

Pac man is a world class fighter in his prime
Hatton is a step below world class and is not in his prime.

Hatton may win, but it would be a big upset imo

I don't think it will be close whatever happens. If Hatton is somehow too strong and manages to keep Pacquiao in the clinches then he'll win easy.

If he doesn't Pacquiao wins easily. I don't see it as a styles mesh that will make for a close fight.

And it will be Pacquiao that wins easy.
