Haye has been stopped, but thats because he was gassed out and not chinny.

Kahn was knocked down once, once in 15 fights, oh no.

Maccarinelli went down to a punch that ANY hw (cept perhaps McCall and Toney) would have gone down to, especially Wlad and Peter.

Lewis and Benn's chins were decent.

Nelson was chinny when he was a cruiser fighting at heavyweight.

Bruno wasn't that chinny- just had no survival instincts when he was stunned.

    Lewis wasn't chinless. Period.

Hide, again was a small HW who didn't have the greatest chin

Macca got KTFO by big punching David Haye, I'm not quite ready to call him chinless on the back of that (and the early) loss.

Benn had a OK but not great chin, he got tagged a lot because of his style.

Haye, I agree is probably chinny at Heavyweight.

Khan we will have to wait and see. One KD to Limond doesn't bode well but its not enough evidence yet IMHO.

Benn had a good enough chin to take G-Man's best. As far as I can remember all his stoppages where down to him gassing. Decent chin but not granite.

Lewis took two punches in an entire career that would floor anyone. Chinless? No ****ing chance.

Mac would have gone down long before he did if he had no chin and anyway Haye hits like a ****ing mule. Chinless? No chance.

You might be waiting a long time to see Haye ot Khan KO'ed.

I wont defend the others mind you.

That's a pretty small selection of British boxers, though.

I think what we can say is that, when they have questionable/bad chins, British boxers are very good at either stylistically or bravely overcoming the problem. Hide in his younger days was actually very hard to tag cleanly (shame that even glancing blows to the ear could KO him, eg. Vitali); Lewis developed into a very good defensive boxer; Nelson was very good defensively even though he was dull as a Scottish summer's day.

Bruno and Benn had a lot of success just on plain heart, although I wouldn't describe either of them as chinny. Benn could be hurt by big punches but was very hard to knock out cleanly, while Bruno was very hard to KO cleanly but would short-circuit and just stand around taking bombs until the sun came up.

    Benn chinless?

Mclellan couldn't put him away though despite hitting him with everything he had.

I guess it's time to start a topic entitled 'Why are so many US champions feather fisted?' with Mclellan's failure to knock out chinless Benn exhibit number one....

Johnny Nelson was chinny when fighting heavyweights, as he was a natural cruiserweight.

David Haye has been KO'd, but because he ran out of gas rather than his chin. He has been down a few times though.

Amir Khan was knocked down by a feather fisted Willie Limond. I will reserve judgment until Amir is put in with someone actually allowed to hit him back.

Frank Bruno wasn't chinny, but totally lacked the ability to hold on the inside or something - a trick Hatton and Calzaghe have off to a tee.

Lennox Lewis was KO'd by a massive bomb from Rahman - enough said.

Nigel Benn was a fighter always going to be clocked - the amount of times he got hit, the odd KO was inevitable.

Other guys who were/are chinny include: Herbie Hide & Herol Graham.

    Good question.

One might wonder if perhaps it had something to do with the defense and fighting styles of a lot of boxers from western Europe as opposed to it actually being a chin issue. For a long time, most of them fought very straight upright styles that left their chins exposed, and used very little upper body movement. Lennox Lewis for example, improved drastically after hiring a great American trainer in Emanual Steward. Frank Bruno's chin was questionable, but again he had that same western Euro stance, and plus was mainly only stopped by big punchers, Tyson, Lewis, Witherspoon, Smith.
