why are so many people fixated on Fury-Usyk?

Fury ended the 34-0, 24 KO's (2004-2015) Klitschko era and set an all time defensive record in Wlad's backyard. Phenomenal win.

Because it's the only fight with massive historical significance. They are the clear top 2 in terms of accomplishment, with multiple wins over No.3 and No.4, an era-concluding win over the previous great champion and zero losses between them. The trials and tribulations of Hrgovic, Joyce, Zhang, Anderson, Jalolov and whoever else don't come into it.

I personally have no interest in the fight aside from watching the melt downs of Usyk fans who think he'll win only to get proven wrong. Both are boring to watch and just overrated fighters. Would rather watch AJ vs Wilder

Sill question, fight the undisputed HW title and find out who's the best HW of this era.

Fury couldn't fight Usyk earlier than 2024 at this point so yeah his recent work is more important than what he did nearly a decade ago. Otherwise Vitali Klitschko could make a comeback and demand a fight with Usyk based on wins in 2012 and 2011.

Usyk has beaten one top 10 heavyweight in Anthony Joshua. At this stage beating him has virtually no historical significance at all. If he cleaned out the division aside from Fury it would but that won't happen. Moreover Joshua's stock went down dramatically following the loss to Ruiz. He's seen rightly or wrongly by many as a manufactured hypejob.

People want to know who the best heavyweight is Usyk or Fury?

It should be Fury based on the advantages he has in height, weight & reach over the Ukrainian "middleweight" but for some strange reason he doesn't want to find out.

They say a good big one always beats a good little one & this is usually true but does a good big one beat an exceptional little one?

It was two and three years ago he beat Wilder, not nearly a decade. Fury doesn't need the Wlad win to have a better resume than Zhang and Hrgovic ffs.

Usyk's Chisora, Dubois and AJ x 2 is also better by a margin.

Usyk and Fury are not Frazier-Ali or even Holy-Lewis in terms of standouts in the division, but clearly the guys to beat.

Don't be silly. The top contender at heavy is Deontay Wilder, and each gave the fans all they had for three fights. Fury isn't under any obligation to fight everyone in the top 10; it's their job to seperate themselves and make the fight sellable.

Fury is the king of the division and, honestly, none of these guys are worth the effort, aside from Joshua and Usyk.

    It's time to get paid.

Ion know what you're talking about "Fury's place in his era is unclear", I'm the first to admit Fury is a goofball and disappointment but he dethroned the 3rd longest reigning HW champion in history, and is the only HW in history to have held every single major belt at any given time (in the 4 division era). The fight being called for is a unification against someone who has won 7 belts in two weight classes, both are undefeated and both have 2 wins over the two men who were supposed to be the most dominant forces in the division so yeah this potential fight is something that people should.......in fact.........be fixated on.

Unification fight between two undefeated heavyweights. Both skilled, one big, one small. What is there not to like? Are you serious?

Joshua is the 3rd/4th highest ranked/most accomplished heavyweight in the division, Usyk beat him twice as the B-side. Usyk is an undefeated, undisputed cruiser champ and unified heavyweight champ, 2x P4P No.1 and current P4P No.3, who would be competing in the first heavyweight undisputed fight of the 21st century. He has what is in terms of quality one of the best CW and HW records of the last 20 years.

"virtually no historical significance at all"

    Keep crying.

In historic terms, he's nothing special...

    But.

It's not a historically strong era.

None of that changes that Joshua's resume is deep by the standards of the era...
Which can't be said for Wilders in any way shape or form - and only up to a point for Fury's.
