Why are some fighters found out but Riddick Bowe just became shot when beaten?? Jeff Lacy was found out when Calzaghe beat him or Bute was found out when Froch beat him. So why does get a free pass when he was knocked around the ring by Golota. He beat Holyfield - but so did Michael Moorer - To be honest Holyfield was a very inconsistant champion and really beat himself by fighting Bowe to Bowes strengths in the first fight - A little adjustment and he won the second fight - as for the third fight - Im sure if it was Michael Moorer in there he would have went 2-1 over the inconsistant Holyfield. I cant imagine any other boxer who still be given credit although they threw their belt in the gargage rather than fight who was a credible opponent, the likes of Ali and Frazer were prepared to die in the ring for the same prize. If there is a boxing hall of shame that's where Bowe belongs!
This content is protected polish bouncer took that chump to school. He was just another black HW US hype job.
bowe lost alot, it was visible, lacy lost alot, but as much as bowe. Bute didn't take the damage lacy and bowe took.
Bowe's performance was credited to his dedication to the sport or lack there of...a bit of a different situation with Lacy and Bute.
Probably something to do with the sluggishness and balooning weight in the first Golota fight, and that he was wobbling from every punch Golota landed in the second and slurring his speech afterwards. The Bowe from the second Golota fight had all the symptoms of a shot fighter, and his actions in the aftermath are further evidence that the guy was damaged goods. It didn't just happen with Golota either. There signs of decline against Hide and third time round against Holyfield. The Gonzalez win flattered Bowe, as the Cuban was thought to be a dangerous opponent based purely on his amateur exploits. If you watch the first two Holyfield fights, or even the Coetzer and Seldon wins, and then compare to the spaghetti legged Bowe of Golota II, it is clearly a weaker and inferior version. Lacy never had a win remotely close to beating a prime Holyfield, and there wasn't any evidence of decline prior to the beating Calzaghe gave him. Calzaghe probably ruined him to a certain extent, but there was a lot less to ruin than the hype machine was claiming. His status as beavy favourite going into the Calzaghe fight owed something as well to Calzaghe being under-rated at the time.
Some good posts so far. I think to some degree Holyfield fans want to make Bowe out to be an ATG fighter so their man didn't lose twice to a guy who is otherwise known for ducking Lewis and getting the **** beaten out of him by Golota
well, it was the way he was beating guys before that: he was making top twenty guys look like chumps, running slick combinations on them with power, and easily outboxing them, not just with strength. Lacey was landing big shots and had the "mystique" of the huge puncher, but we hadn't seen him outboxing top twenty guys with ease, just maybe getting a knock out. Guys who only rely on power are more likely to get "exposed" because when they can't knock a guy out, they don't have a plan B. To some degree this is what people claim about Trinidad: if he can't hurt you, he doesn't know what to do. Bowe could still win a decision even if he couldn't hurt a guy ... until he was shot. and his level of competition was just better than Lacey's, I don't care.
I lost all respect for Riddick Bowe & Rock Newman when they blatently renaged on fighting Lennox Lewis. They did that because they knew Lennox had Bowe's number & Riddick would have his ass handed to him & been exposefd a lot earlier. I asked Newman to his face why they renaged on Lewis & his only answer was " Why risk it all against Lewis when people will buy Bowe-Dokes & Bowe-Ferguson with NO RISK!! ??
