Why are the highly-ranked heavyweights so reluctant to fight?

    Risk and reward, and the over-fetishization of unbeaten/near-unbeaten records.

    e.g. Joe Joyce took five successive risky fights against strong contender/superior gatekeeper types, Dubois/Takam/Hammer/Parker/Zhang... losing just one of the five has left his career supposedly 'in ruins'.

    Why would anyone who's got one of the major straps ever bother taking such risks?

    He should be stripped of his WBC belt for not defending it. But of course that won't happen.

    Still, I imagine Warren and Arum are getting a bit tired of him by now .There are many heavyweights (Hrgovic, Bakole, Sanchez, Zhang, Makhmudov, Ruiz, etc.) who want to fight him. He's being a disgrace by avoiding them and making lame excuses.
